Once upon a time there was a little boy.
He wasn’t strong.
He wasn’t smart.
His body was awkward and didn’t always do what he wanted it to.
Sometimes he got scared because life was so big and he wasn’t very important and he really didn’t know his place in the world. He knew almost nothing, and everyone else knew it too.
But none of that mattered because he was alive, and there was so much to do and see and be, and that was enough.
Sometimes he was a good boy. Sometimes he made a mess of things.
He laughed a few times. He cried a few times. And in a blink the boy was gone.
In his place was a young man.
He was so strong.
He was so smart.
And his body felt like it would live forever.
He liked to pretend he never got scared because even though life was so big, soon he would be important and would find his place in the world. He still didn’t know much, but that wouldn’t matter as long as no one else knew.
He was alive. He was hungry to do and see and be, and nothing was enough.
Sometimes he was a good man. Sometimes he made a mess of things.
He laughed a few times. He cried a few times. And in a blink the young man was gone.
In his place was an old man.
He wasn’t as strong as he wanted to be.
He wasn’t as smart as he wanted to be.
His body was awkward and didn’t always do what he wanted it to.
Sometimes he got scared because the world was so big and he wasn’t very important and he really didn’t know what came next.
He now knew for certain that he knew almost nothing, but he didn’t care who else knew.
Because he found what mattered. He was alive, and there was so much to do and see and be, and that was enough.
He tried like never before, to just be a good man.
He tried like never before to not make such a mess of things.
He finally found his place in the world,
And in that place he built himself a beautiful life.
