A Wasco man accused of biting a severed human leg, appeared in a Shafter courtroom to face a judge for the first time following the shocking incident. 27-year-old Resendo Tellez faces four charges in connection to the crime.
The judge entered a not guilty plea on Tellez's behalf.
The incident happened Friday after a person was hit and killed by a train in Wasco.
Video shows Tellez on the sidewalk carrying what witnesses say was a severered leg from the train victim... bring it close to his face, and swinging it while he shows it to Sheriff's Deputies.
Tellez is due back in court a week from today.
We now know why there was a standoff last night in south Bakersfield.
It all started around 7 o'clock on Edith Lane... when police say a man forced his way inside another family's home.
You can see there was a heavy police presence.. with a helicopter was also seen circling the area.
There were rumors that a murder took place, but police say that no true.
However, they say the man is on on parole for attempted murder.
Eventually, officers were able to take the man into custody.
A Bakersfield man -- accused of posing as an employee to steal from multiple businesses -- is under arrest this morning. Investigators say it all started at Pacific Power Incorporated, an industrial equipment supplier, back in February.
They say the man pretended to be a worker and made fraudulent purchases worth thousands of dollars.
The man is accused of doing the same thing a month later... this time targeting Dream Maker Bath and Kitchen on District Boulevard.
The owner, Everett Gray, says the suspect tried to purchase flooring from a neighboring businesses under Gray's name.
That's when the owner of the neighboring business alerted Everett, who immediately called the police. 33-year-old Adrian Tinoco was arrested this week in connection to the thefts.
He's facing several charges, including four counts of burglary and identity theft.
Overnight a rescue mission turns to recovery on Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge... the bodies of six workers are still missing after a huge container ship hit the bridge - sending the workers into the water.
NBC's Alice Barr has the details from the key bridge in Baltimore.
If you've ever been to a Bakersfield Condors hockey game, you've no doubt seen her in the stands– Phyllis Hansen, the Dancin' Granny.
Well, this last weekend the Condors lost a vital part of the team.

a disturbing eyewitness account of a man seen on video walking around with a severed body part from a train crash. It happened last Friday in Wasco.
Witnesses tell us, 27-year-old Resendo Tellez is the man seen in this video carrying around a severed leg... and accuse him of biting into it.
That body part... belonging to a victim hit and killed by a train at the Wasco Amtrak Station.
Before the incident, Tellez was seen in security footage shared with 17 News... visiting a liquor store.
He's the one in the orange shirt.
Those who know Tellez say he is homeless, and describe him as ordinary and polite.
A construction worker spoke to... tells us he was in the area when he saw Tellez carrying around the body part.Court records Tellez has at least a half dozen prior misdemeanor convictions... mostly for drug or alcohol-related offenses.
Tellez is scheduled for a court appearance Tuesday in Shafter.
David Abbasi -- a candidate in this month's election for Kern County Supervisor -- was arrested for calling 9-1-1 too many times. Abbasi told 17 News he was booked into jail Sunday and released yesterday morning.
He said he was "falsely arrested and imprisoned."
Abbasi, who says he has asthma, explained that one of his business neighbors has consistently been smoking indoors, leading to the smoke creeping into his own unit.
He also says he had to go to the hospital for breathing treatment, and out of for fear of an asthma attack, he called 9-1-1 multiple times.
Turning to an grim update on Kern County's fentanyl crisis.
Just days after the triumphant debut of his latest music documentary, investigators say local filmmaker Nate Berg died of a fentanyl overdose. Back in January... Berg was found down on the sidewalk in the middle of the night in downtown Bakersfield.
He had been ill with an undiagnosed respiratory illness – and some speculated he had Covid-19.
But yesterday afternoon the Kern County Coroner's Office made official of what some of those close to him had feared.
Berg died of acute Hydrocodone and fentanyl toxicity – an accidental overdose.
He is now one of the more than 900 people in Kern who have died from fentanyl-related overdoses in the past four years.
The number of in-custody deaths is on the rise even as the number of incarcerated people continues to decline.
Kern County is among the counties setting an in-custody death record.

Many in Wasco are in disbelief this morning... after watching a bizarre video of a man walking around with a severed body part from a train crash. Here's what we know.
This happened Friday morning in Wasco.
When first responders arrived... the pedestrian was found dead.
What led up to the crash is still under investigation.
By our count... this was the 15-th pedestrian death in Kern County so far this year. The witness who sent this to us, says a man was walking around while holding a severed leg.
It apparently detached from the pedestrian's body during the crash.
KCSO says that man was arrested on charges of willfully removing human remains and drug possession.
The search is on for two women accused a stealing a wallet at Frugatti's Italian retaurant. Bakersfield police say it happened March 1-st... when these two women... stole another woman's wallet from her purse while she was dining at Frugatti's.
Shortly after, police say the victim's credit cards were used fraudulently.
If you have any information on this theft... you're urged to call BPD at 327-7111.
Also, Police say this man used a stolen credit card to buy items at WinCo Foods in northwest Bakersfield.
The suspect is believed to be in his 30's or 40's.
He was last seen wearing a black jacket over a white shirt.
Again -- if you have a tip for investigators -- call 327-7111.
The community of Arvin gathered over the weekend to celebrate the life and legacy of former mayor Olivia Trujillo.
A special ceremony was held at City Hall where her daughter says she will always be a part of Arvin.

A former Kern County prosecutor says supervisors at the District Attorney's Office ordered her not to wear skirts to work, even during Bakersfield's scorching summers, unless she also wore pantyhose.That's according to a federal lawsuit set for a scheduling conference next month.
Nishi Dayal says she has fibromyalgia, a painful disorder that limits her mobility and prevents her from wearing stockings or certain footwear.
After multiple reprimands for not wearing pantyhose, Dayal was demoted, according to the suit.
She went from hearing felony cases in Bakersfield to being assigned misdemeanor cases in Delano.
Four months later, she resigned, saying she was "exhausted by the ongoing discrimination."
The D-A's dress code policy, which has been in place for at least three decades, requires women to wear pantyhose with dresses, skirt suits, and dress suits. Assistant District Attorney Joseph Kinzel released a statement, saying quote "We look forward to presenting a complete defense to these claims and ensuring that the truth prevails."
The preliminary hearing for Alan Booth, the man who allegedly drove drunk when he backed into a crowd at the Bakersfield Christmas Parade, has been postponed to late May.
Police say three paradegoers were hit the night of December 7th in the area of H and 21st streets when Booth drove in reverse from an alley.
One of the victims suffered leg fractures and a skull fracture.
According to police reports, Booth's blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.
The Rosedale Union School District has put a hold on a ban announced this week on Stanley drinking cups.
17's Robert Price with more on the district's back-track of the new rule.
The community of Arvin this weekend will gather to celebrate the life and legacy of former city mayor Olivia Trujillo. Trujillo passed in early March after a long battle with cancer.
A visitation is being held tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at Faro Church on Campus Drive.
A memorial service is sheduled for tomorrow morning at 10 -- also at Faro Church.
And a celebration of life will follow at noon at Veterans Hall on North A Street.
Trujillo, a graduate of Arvin High School, became the first woman, Latina and immigrant to be elected mayor of Arvin.

Stanley cups and bottles have been flying off the shelves across the country.
But soon... they'll be banned from some schools in Kern County. The Rosedale Union School District notified parents about the ban yesterday.
It states that drink containers that have any metal or glass in them -- will be prohibited from campuses after students return from spring break on April 2-nd.
The district did not elaborate on why the ban will be put in effect.... but says any metal or glass drink container found on campus will be confiscated... and parents will have to pick it up after school.
Turning to an update on an officer-involved shooting.
After conducting a use-of-force investigation... the California City Police Department says an officer was *justified* in shooting a dog.
We must warn you... the video you're about to see may be disturbing to some viewers. It all happened during a welfare check last week at a home on Alder Drive.
Police say the dog was chained to a tree, but when the officer approached the home, the dog broke free and charged toward him.
That's when the officer pulled the trigger one time... striking the dog.
The owner says the dog survived.
Cal City Police Chief Jesse Hightower says an investigation determined the officer's use of force was within department policy.
A vacant home under renovation went up in flames in East Bakersfield The Bakersfield City Fire Department giving us a first-hand look at the firefight through a helmet camera.
The fire broke out yesterday morning on Eureka Street near Owens Sreet.
No one was hurt.
Turning to our 17 follow up file and more on the rescue of a Bakersfield girl who was allegedly abducted by a man she met online.
While She was found safe, this case highlights a big problem: the number of missing children in Kern County.

rumors are swirling on Capitol Hill this morning.
Former Bakersfield Congressman Kevin McCarthy is being considered as a top candidate for Donald Trump's chief of staff... should Trump win the presidential election. That's according to a Bloomberg article published yesterday.
It says McCarthy was offered the job in Trump's last term, but turned it down because he wanted to serve as house speaker.
According to Bloomberg, Trump is considering McCarthy as chief of staff because of McCarthy's understanding of Capitol Hill, federal agencies and budgets.
McCarthy has largely remained out of the public eye since his resignation from Congress in December.
We are less than two hours away from polling sites opening up in Kern County for a special election.
Voters are being asked to choose who will complete the remainder of Kevin McCarthy's term in the House... which would've ended next January... had he not resigned Remember... the special election is *separate* from the full two-year term to *replace* McCarthy.
That race was part of the primary election earlier this month.
Here are your nine candidates... some were on your March primary ballots.
Mike Boudreaux... Anna Zoe Cohen... Vince Fong... and Kyle Kirkland are the Republicans.
Marisa Wood and Harmesh Kumar are the Democratic candidates.
James Cardoza... Ben Dewell and David Fluhart are running as no party preference.
If none of these candidates receive a majority of the votes... meaning 50 percent plus 1... there will be a runoff special election in May. And a special election is expensive.
For the primary and potential runoff... Kern County says it expects to spend $1.6 million dollars.
While Fresno, Tulare and Kings Counties estimate they will combine for $1.3 million dollars in spending.
Polling sites are set to open this morning at 7 o'clock... and will close tonight at 8.
A man who was shot in Oildale nearly three years ago, has died of his wounds. The shooting happened at a suspected illegal casino on North Chester Avenue back in 20-21.
38-year-old Christopher Ray Walker was shot several times and survived.
But according to the coroner's office, Walker died this past January of complications from multiple gunshot wounds.
His death has been ruled a homicide.
No word on whether anyone has been charged in the case.
Now to an officer-involved shooting in January, that left a man dead.
The Bakersfield Police Department has now released body-camera footage of the incident.
And, we want to warn you, it is graphic as it shows what transpired between officers and the suspect. Here's 17's Mikhala Armstrong.

a frightening moment for an 11-year-old girl who was reported missing in Bakersfield...but later was found with a man in Utah KCSO said Ryder Rene Garcia was reported missing early yesterday morning.
Later that morning, deputies learned the young girl may be with a man, and traveling through Utah.
Local deputies reached out to Utah authorities to help find Garcia.
Officials say she was found with a man and unharmed.
Officers over the weekend responded to a pickup truck hitting a horse and rider. BPD says they located a man and horse in the road suffering major injuries at South Sterling Street and Alto Place just before midnight Saturday.
The rider eventually died from the crash.
Officials say the horse had major injuries and officers decided the most humane course of action was to euthanize the horse at the scene.
Police say alcohol, drugs, or speed are not factors in the crash.
No arrests were made.
The identity of the rider of the horse, or driver of the pickup have not been released.
It's been 8 days since a deadly officer-involved shooting in Oildale.
Cole Hughes was shot by a Kern County sheriff's deputy who responded to a report of domestic violence.
Hughes' wife says this didn't have to happen.

Police in Fresno are investigating a house fire where two children were killed. Officials responded to the house fire in Kingsburg yesterday morning.
They say they saw a car that rammed into the side of a home where a woman was inside.
Later- deputies learned that woman was the mother of the two children who were stuck inside the house----
They say she was trying to make an exit route for her two children- so they could get out safely.
However, both children- an eight year old boy and his six year old sister died in the fire----
The family says both of those children had autism.
The mother suffered non-life-threatening burns to her hands and face.

It's an ongoing concern in Kern County... pedestrian safety.
And now two pedestrians are dead this morning... following seperate crashes in the same day.One of them happened last night in southeast Bakersfield at the intersection of Cottonwood and East Pacheco Roads.
You can see several emergency vehicles responding to the crash.
Police say a woman was hit by a pickup truck.
She died at the scene.
Earlier yesterday, another person hit and killed in Delano.
CHP says a 55-year-old man was killed after walking into the path of an oncoming car.
By our count, these were the 11-th and 12-th pedestrian deaths in Kern County so far this year.
You can let your voice be heard about how pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers share Bakersfield roadways this Monday. Blue Zones Project is hosting the "Complete Streets Leadership Seminar."
It all starts at 9 A-M at Lino's Venue in downtown Bakersfield.

Once again... pro-Palestinian protesters disrupted a Bakersfield City Council meeting last night.
And Mayor Karen Goh... kicked them out.the meeting was halted and the protesters were escorted out of the building.
They want city council members to join more than 70 cities across the U-S and approve a ceasefire resolution.
Other cities on that list include Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco.
No word yet from Bakersfield City Council if there are plans to discuss or vote on a resolution.
A Bakersfield police officer and two others were sent to a hospital after a crash near Highway 58. It happened late yesterday afternoon on East Brundage Lane.
You can see the front of the police cruiser is completely smashed... as it's being towed away.
Police say the collision occured in the middle of this intersection.
No word yet on who may be at fault.
An investigation is ongoing.
Police say the officer -- and two people riding inside the other car -- were treated for minor injuries.
Crews in northeast Bakersfield worked overnight to put out a fire at a car wash business. It broke out around 8 last night.
This is at the Auto Spa Express Wash on Knudsen Drive.
Crews knocked down the blaze shortly after 10-30.
The cause... is under investigation.
Making headlines around the nation:
The U-S House of representatives passed a bill that could ban the ultra popular social media app TikTok.
Lawmakers say the move is out of national security concerns.
