A man is behind bars this morning after an hours-long standoff with KCSO deputies in Rosamond.This is what the scene looked like last night.
The Kern County Sheriff's Office says deputies were sent to this home for a report of a restraining order violation.
However, deputies say a man -- identified as 24-year-old Joseph Nelson -- refused to come out and barricaded himself inside a room.
You can see several emergency vehicles were on scene during this time... as deputies asked the public to stay away.
The man eventually walked out of the home hours later... and was taken into custody on several charges.
This morning we know the name of the man who was shot and killed by a KCSO deputy this week. The coroner says 53-year-old Cole Jackson Hughes of Bakersfield was killed in the shooting.
Deputies say they initially responded to a report of domestic violence at a home on Beardsley Avenue on Sunday.
KCSO says Hughes was armed with a deadly weapon when deputies arrived...
One deputy shot Hughes.
He was taken to the hospital where he died.
No one else was hurt.
A Bakersfield man has been arrested in connection to a December shooting that left a woman dead. Police have announced the arrest of 34-year-old Dontrel Jackson.
The shooting happened at a home on Evanston Court.
Court documents say it all started when the mother of Jackson's child -- Venesha Hanks -- caught him in bed with another woman.
Jackson says he heard his window open and grabbed a gun and shot Hanks, killing her.
Jackson is now facing a number of charges... including involuntary manslaughter and domestic violence.
At least one person is in critical condition this morning after a crash in southwest Bakersfield. Take a look and you can see the aftermath of the wreck.
From the damage... it appears to have been a head-on collision.
This happened yesterday morning at the intersection of White Lane and Gosford Road.
Northbound lanes of Gosford Road were closed for a period of time after the crash.

an update on Kern's homeless crisis.
Dozens of people are back on the street this morning after being arrested during an encampment sweep in Old Town Kern.
The sweep is drawing polarizing opinions.
Some say it is just making the homeless crisis worse.... while others say strategical sweeps can be the solution.
17's Cecilia Trevino has the story.
In an effort to combat the homeless crisis here in Kern County... a local nonprofit is getting a big check from the feds -- worth 9 million dollars.Hanford representative David Valadao secured the funds last week in the passage of a new bill in congress.
You can see him checking the site -- with Open Door members -- for an impending homeless shelter.
Open Door says the project will be "truly transformative."
No yet on when the new shelter is expected to break ground.
A man is under arrest this morning in connection to a stabbing in Southwest Bakersfield. The stabbing happened just after midnight yesterday on Morrison Street.
Polie say a man was arrested on charges of attempted murder.
No word yet on the condition of the victim, or what led up to the stabbing.
The man is due in court tomorrow.
An investigation is underway following a deadly crash in Rosamond.
It happened yesterday morning on West Rosamond Boulevard... near Frontage Road.
Details on the crash are still limited... but investigators say a semi-truck was involved.
The person who died has not been identified as of newstime.

a violent crash that shut down lanes of highway 178 last night.one of the cars resting in the median of the road.
This happened on the 178 between Haley Street and Mount Vernon Avenue.
At least two cars were involved.
Most of the road had to be shut down as crews cleared the area.
We're still waiting for more information about the crash from CHP, but an ambulance was seen leaving the scene.
A man accused of domestic violence and being armed with weapons was shot by a deputy in Oildale.The shooting happened yesterday afternoon.
KCSO says deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a home on Beardsley Avenue.
Officials say when deputies arrived, they confronted a man armed with a deadly weapon.
One deputy shot the suspect.
That man was sent to the hospital.
No one else was hurt.
KCSO says there were multiple guns found on scene
Today marks four years since the world abruptly stopped...and began navigating a deadly pandemic. It was March 11, 2020.
The World Health Organization formally decalred coronavirus a pandemic.
Later that day, Tom Hanks announced he had contracted the virus.
The NBA had canceled the rest of its season.
Here in Kern County, public health officials confirmed the first case of COVID-19 on Saint Patricks Day 2020.
Our first confirmed death was a few weeks later.
Since then, 2,676 Kern County residents have died from the virus.
Access to mental health services has long been a challenge for older Americans. And although Medicare's population has more than doubled over the past few decades...
The number of mental health care providers has not...but a new expansion in coverage is looking to change that.
NBC news correspondent Valerie Castro looks at how the move will affect seniors and prospective providers.

a shooting investigation launched in Lamont overnight Here's what we've learned so far.
The shooting happened around 6:45 last night.
Investigators say a man was shot several times and was inside this home when deputies arrived.
KCSO says the man was taken to the hospital with wounds that do not appear to be life threatening.
No word this morning on any possible suspects.
Now to a standoff that played out in southwest Bakersfield.
Officers were called to a home yesterday afternoon on Tulane Park Place for a welfare check..
While they were there... officers say they issued probable cause to arrest an 83-year-old man.
Police say the man refused to come out of the home and made threats to shoot officers.
But a public safety decision was made for officers to leave after they determined the man was alone inside the home.
A Kern County Grand Jury is revealing troubling information about California City. A new report released by the grand jury described California City as a town in a financial and leadership crisis.
The investigation was launched after residents made complaints.
The report lists a number of problems... including frequent leadership turnover.
In the past two years... there have been seven *different* city managers.
Also, the reports cites how the city's annual budget has been approved several months late in recent years.

An investigation is underway this morning after a man was found dead in a Planet Fitness parking lot.This is what the scene looked like last night in Central Bakersfield.
Police say a man called to report that his brother was unresponsive inside a car.
Witnesses say they saw officers arrive and break through a backseat window.
You can see what appears to be glass on the ground near the car.
Police say there were no obvious signs of trauma to the body.
The investigation is ongoing.
An inmate was found dead inside the Lerdo Jail. The coroner's office says 30-year-old Jocelin Berly Alvarez died on Sunday.
Investigators are now working to determine the cause and manner of her death.
Two men -- accused of shooting and killing a rival gang member for mocking them -- will spend decades behind bars Avid Gray received life without parole and Demitris King got 20 years to life for the shooting.
A mistrial was declared in the case of a third defendant, Christian Gaines, back in November.
He has a readiness hearing set for next week.

We're learning Nikki Haley is set to drop out of the race for president. That now leaves Donald Trump as the last major Republican candidate vying for the White House.This news is according to three people with direct knowledge of Haley's decision.
Haley is expected to formally suspend her campaign in a speech at 7 a.m.
Haley argued that she was a fresh alternative to the former president and that it was time to move past the “chaos” of the Trump era.
Haley's candidacy was slow to attract support.
But Haley ultimately outlasted other high-profile candidates, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence.
Coming up at 6 -- we will speak with our political analysts to discuss what this means for the 2024 presidential election, in what is now expected to be a Trump and Biden rematch.This now gives Trump a clear path to the general election.
He won by a landslide in the California primary....leading with 79 percent of the votes counted so far.
Haley lost in every state on Super Tuesday... except for Vermont. As for president Biden... it was a clean sweep on Super Tuesday... including here in California.
As you can see... he leads with 89 percent of the votes counted so far in the Golden State
And we're waking up after the biggest election day on the primary calender.
16 states -- including California -- along with one U.S. territory, participated in Super Tuesday. And this morning.... we're one step close to finding out who will be running for Kevin McCarthy's old congressonal seat in November.
It's a race we've been following closely for months.

The big question this morning -- who will replace the late California Senator Dianne Feinstein?
It appears it will be a battle between democrat congressman Adam Schiff... against Republican and former baseball star Steve Garvey
We turn now to results from the state assembly.
In District 32, the incumbent is actually encouraging his constituents to vote for someone else.Bakersfield Assemblyman Vince Fong is technically running unopposed...
The other three candidates you see on your screen are write-in candidates.
You see zeros on your screen because it's a longer process to start counting for write-in votes.
Fong has urged voters to back Bakersfield city councilman Ken Weir.
This all comes after Fong jumped into the 20th congressional race after the filing deadline, setting off a chain reaction that saw Weir jump into the assembly race.

It's the biggest election day on the primary calender...
Super Tuesday is here... and our local polls are just hours away from opening up. Whether you got your ballot in the mail or you're making sure to head to the polls later today, we've compiled everything you need to know.
Polls are open from 7:00am to 8:00pm today.
You can head to www.kernvote.com, and click on the tab "Poll Site Look Up" to find the closest polling site.
If you prefer using the drop box method, you must make sure to drop off your ballot before 8:0pm tonight at any of the 19 ballot drop boxes.
Kernvote.com can also assist you in finding the nearest drop box.
If you recieved a ballot by mail, you do NOT have to surrender it when coming in to a polling site to vote.
You will not have to show ID to a site volunteer, unless it is your first time voting and you did NOT provide your driver license number, California identification number or the last four digits of your social security number on your registration form, you may be asked to show a form of identification when you go to the polls for the first time.
Local candidates are doing last-minute campaigning ahead of today's big election Three candidates are vying for David Couch's District Four seat on the Kern County Board of Supervisors.
All of them are Latino... and if one of them were to win... in would be the first time the district had a Latino supervisor.
Candidate Salvador Solorio-Ruiz says voters want new representation. All three challengers have local government experience... including Alex Garcia, the mayor of Wasco.... and Veronica Vasquez, a Delano City Councilmember. We reached out to Supervisor Couch, but have yet to receive a response.
The city of Arvin is mourning the passing of its long-time mayor this morning.
Olivia Trujillo has died after a long battle with cancer.Yesterday, the city announced Trujillo peacefully passed away in her home over the weekend.
She was the first woman, first Latina, and first immigrant elected as mayor for the City of Arvin.
Some leaders say they will remember Trujillo for her hard work to move Arvin forward. Trujillo was 67 years old.
Her seat is now in the hands of Arvin city council members.
They can either hold a special election or make an appointment.
Arvin's city manager Jeff Jones tell us it appears an appointment will be made.

Yosemite national park is back open this morning.
The park closed Friday because of the storm.
Park rangers say as of three o-clock yesterday visitors were welcome to come in through the highway 41 and 140 entrances.
Big Oak Flat Road and Badger Pass Road plus some ski areas will stay closed until today at noon and tire chains are required.
The Wawona campground will re-open as first come first serive- and the park says bring a shovel- to be prepared for winter camping.
The final sprint is on heading into super Tuesday.
For republicans, voters in more than a dozen states head to the polls in about 24 hours.
While former President Trump is edging closer to a rematch with president biden, former u.n. Ambassador Nikki Haley is not giving in - she's celebrating her first primary win in the nation's capital - making her the first woman to ever win a republican primary.
NBC's brie Jackson has the latest from Washington..
And tomorrow voters across California will head to the polls as well. Here's what you need to know: there are 19 ballot drop boxes across the county.
There are tamper evidence seals on the ballots and on the ballot drop boxes.
Every one is monitored by camera 24/7.
Kern County Clerk Aimee Espinoza says there are measures in place to make sure people aren't voting twice, and evey single eligible vote is counted.
You can cast your vote by ballot drop box no later than 8pm on tomorrow.
If you choose to vote in-person tomorrow, make sure to take the ballot you received in the mail with you, to surrender.

the department of water resources conducted its third snow survey of the season yesterday morning, before a full-blown blizzard is expected to roll through the sierra nevada mountains.
At Phillips Station, the DWR measured the water content of the sierra snowpack... showing a depth of 47 point 5 inches -- roughly four feet.. which is about 77 percent of the average for this time of year at that location.
DWR's electronic readings from 130 stations placed throughout the state indicate the statewide snowpack's water equivalent is 80-percent of average for this date -- a significant improvement from just 28% of average on January 1st.
We have new information on an accident near Buttonwillow, that sent two men to the hospital. The crash happened yesterday morning on the 58 east of Bussell Road.
According to the CHP, the driver of a Toyota Rav-4 that was involved in an earlier crash was walking around the vehicle, surveying the damage.
That's when another car going about 60 miles per hour, rear-ended the Toyota.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital.
Officials did not give an update on their conditions.
CHP says the second driver was going too fast for the foggy conditions at the time of the crash, adding alcohol and/or drugs were not involved.
The Kern County Coroner has identified a Bakersfield man who died in an early morning crash Tuesday on Zerker Road.
Investigators say Eric Paul Hoffman drove off the road and crashed into multiple other cars.
The 74-year-old died in the crash.
Two other drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

For the second time in two weeks... pro-Palestinian protesters took over a Bakersfield City Council meeting... calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.Several protesters delivered passionate speeches in front of the council for a little under an hour last night.
They want councilmembers to approve a ceasefire resolution... joining more than 70 other cities across the U.S.
At this time, however, councilmembers have not announced any plans of voting on a resolution.
The long-running feud between the Kern Medical Hospital Authority and the union representing rank and file workers at the hospital is getting tense.Yesterday morning, the Union announced the filing of a complaint with the state.
They claim the Hospital Authority overpaid its top executives, through their own private consulting firms, to the tune of 23-million dollars over the last four years.
Named in the complaint...Scott Thygerson, the current CEO for the Kern Hospital Authority... Andrew Cantu, the current Chief Financial Officer... and Russell Judd, the Hospital Authority's former CEO.
New court documents show a driver accused of a Valentine's Day crash was on her way to get fentanyl.The reports also say 29-year-old Joanna Bojorquez-Higuera spit on and threatened to a shoot a police officer.
She reportedly told officers she wanted "fetty" -- which is the street term for fentanyl.
Bojorquez-Higuera was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence of a drug and speeding through a red light in central Bakersfield, crashing into other vehicles and injuring four people.
Bojorquez-Higuera pleaded not guilty.
Police say she has two prior DUI convictions.
