Kick Ons

Welcome to Kick Ons, the podcast that isn't hosted by Art Simone, but was the first podcast to be ever invented — we originated the art form. This week, Steph issues a feline based challenge to Jason who wasn't the only Wellington personality to make the move to Tāmaki Makaurau this year. We also raise our (stemmed) glasses to both Olivia Newtown John and Anne Heche, plus delve into Shania Twain's new Netflix documentary—and her back catalogue. Stay calm, remember that Brad Pitt is still hot and most importantly, find your mug.

Smash that fire alarm, the silliness returns and it's kind of hot. This week, we're sharing our love for our listeners, by sharing a couple of recommendations they've to sent us (keep 'em coming, by the way).

We also discuss the horrible news that KETE is no-more and gush over all the cute new music we've been listening to, even if we feel like we're the oldest at the gig.

Get ready, this one is NSFW, we were howling and hope you do too.

RENAISSANCE is here and we're obsessed (obvi) which leads to a discussion about which albums we think are going to be fighting it out at this years Grammys. Jason has some things to say about the results of the first maxi challenge on Ru Paul's Drag Race Down Under and Steph has learnt the invaluable lesson that a re-watch of Mamma Mia can do you some good. Plus in a Kick Ons first, we Be Real live on microphone, so silly duh.

Hi silly, it’s another week but hey don’t feel pressure to keep up the news cycle, we got you. We want you to think of Kick Ons as that old 90s rom com you put on when the thought of starting a new series is just too much. This week we’re catching up on Jason’s decor decisions and subsequent Facebook Marketplace addiction. Steph needs to have a little vent and a giggle at anything serious. Warning: This episode includes audience participation. Say ‘Silly!’

This week, we give into the joys of change here at Kick Ons. Steph has a new job, Jason has a new flat and Lizzo has a new album — it's all just so ‘Special’. Plus, the sometimes segment ‘Hinge Binge’ is back 🫣 And not gonna lie the First Sips this week are top-notch. Tune in for another week of gay-os (as in, rhymes with chaos) mixed with a lil bit of sports commentary.

Just when you thought this year couldn't get any stranger, Lea Michele gets cast in Funny Girl on Broadway. So, we're marching our band out, beating our drums and spilling all the MT tea this week (C's get degrees, don't forget). A weekend together in Tāmaki Makaurau, and we still have more to talk about — including an exciting weekend ahead for Jason, what JLO's documentary was actually about and a new perspective on 2001-2008. Plus, Drag Race Down Under is back — look out world, here comes Minnie Cooper.

Fresh from a glass smashing day at Tom’s, it was time to take a week off the pop culture chats and play a little game. Thanks to a thought-provoking deck of Reflex, this episode will make you think and learn a little more about Kick Ons. Find out Steph’s most questionable celebrity crush, spoiler alert it’s not Commander Fred Waterford (although it probably should be) and whether Jason would rather have three feet or three hands.

Steph has (once again) unpaused Hinge and learnt a new joke in the process, so it's time for a Hinge Binge. Meanwhile, Jason has a gig coming up and together, we're gearing up to be reunited three whole times in the next month. Inspired by our conversation with Amamelia, we decided to arduously decide what our five desert island tracks are right now. Buckle up, this episode contains a confession, some epic recommendations and as usual, pure chaos.

This week, we welcome Eurovision fangirl and crying on the dancefloor enthusiast — Amamelia to Kick Ons.

Amamelia has just released her brand new track, ‘Love Is Useless’ and joins us to chat about its creation.

The single is accompanied by a fabulously trippy music video and features vocal angel Junny.
