  • 31. The Law of Attraction in Parenting

If you want to see changes in anything the way that you speak about it has a monumental impact on what you experience, even in parenting.

Want to see a change in your child's behaviors? Changing the way you speak about those behaviors is one of the first and crucial steps.

In this episode, Khia shares the way that the words you speak and the beliefs that you hold about your children and your experiences with them changes the way you interact with them and how they see themselves way beyond the current moment.

  • 30. Kids Deserve Respect Too

It's so interesting when I talk to adults about respecting children it's like I'm speaking a foreign language or something. If you do not show your children respect how do they learn how to look for it in other relationships and interactions? If their own parents do not believe they are worthy of respect (what you're saying each time I say respect kids and you choose not to) why would they expect respect from others? It starts with you. They are people too!

  • 29. Mental Health in the Black Community: Real or Made Up?

If I had $10 for every time I've heard someone say, "we didn't have all that back in our day" when I talk about children's mental health among minority adults...

We tend to avoid or dismiss what we don't understand. But, are we really doing our young people any justice by expecting them to just ignore their feeling like past generations or are we really doing them a disservice? Leaving them isolated in their feelings doesn't seem like a great idea to me...

  • 27. You Are Responsible for Your Own Emotions

Often times as parents your children can trigger unhealed parts of yourself. This may be the reason you find yourself lashing out at them and getting so angry about their behaviors. In this episode I teach you how to determine if that is happening, how it typically plays out, how it can be harmful for your child, and how to fix it.

  • 26. Kids, Divorce, & Custody with family lawyer, Jana K. Jones

It's International Women's Month and I have a powerhouse with me this week, Jana K. Jones!

Jana K. Jones is a Charlotte-area native who attended East Mecklenburg High School. After high school, Ms. Jones studied sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). While enrolled at the UNC-CH, she was a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.

Ms. Jones mentored "at-risk" students in multiple programs including Carrboro, North Carolina's Teens Climb High and Durham, North Carolina's Standards Based Solutions. Ms. Jones also participated in a UNC-CH's MANO Program that provided English as a second language and mentoring services to immigrant women.

As an undergraduate student, she received UNC-CH's Academic Achievement Award as well as The National Dean's List Multiple Year award. Ms. Jones graduated from UNC-CH on the UNC-CH's Dean's List and was a member of their Sociological Honor Society.

While a student at NCCU Law, Ms. Jones was trained as a Certified Mediator by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission. After her certification, she mediated cases in Wake County, North Carolina. Ms. Jones also participated in the Innocence Project. The Innocence Project is dedicated to exonerating wrongly convicted people through DNA testing. For her work in public service, Ms. Jones was awarded the North Carolina Bar Association's Certificate of Achievement for Public Service.

When Ms. Jones is not practicing law she enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants and spending time with her husband and daughter.

Ms. Jones has extensive knowledge of family law and has been in private practice in the greater Charlotte area for over 12 years.

Ms. Jones understands the importance of family. Her experience and compassion will help you navigate the tedious family law process. Ms. Jones works hard for her clients and looks forward to working hard for you.

  • 24. Is This A Phase? The Power of Love and Acceptance for LGBTQ+ Youth

It seems like more and more youth are taking on (or taking off) labels that maybe you're not used to hearing.

I was joined by LGBTQ+ advocate, Jennifer Boudrye, to discuss what is going on with our youth and how we, as the adults, can show up for them.

According to the 2022 report conducted by The Trevor Project, a widely known advocacy agency for LGBTQ+ youth, "73% of LGBTQ+ youth experience anxiety" and 58% of those youth experience depression.

Being aware that this is still a hot/taboo topic particularly when it comes to youth, this podcast episode is not to debate what is right vs. wrong. This episode instead is intended to give adults support, as well as additional perspectives in how to support youth who you may know that share with you they feel connected to this community in any way.

Whether you have a child who has "come out" to you or not and regardless of what your beliefs are I encourage you to listen to the entire episode with an open heart and mind.

If you would like additional support or have additional questions you can always reach out to Jennifer through her website, www.parentwithcare.co or Khia at www.notesbykhia.com.
