  • Navigating the Unexpected

Many of us would say that our lives haven’t exactly unfolded according to our plans. We had hoped for something better or perhaps just something different. Nevertheless, here we are…living through the unexpected. In today’s sermon, we’ll look at the biblical story of a woman who can certainly relate. We’ll learn from her example how we can stay connected with God and find renewed purpose as we navigate the unexpected (and sometimes unwanted) turns life takes. Join us as we begin a new series on the book of Esther.

  • Drawing Near to God

If we’re honest, we sometimes fall short of our best intentions in life. And we frequently fall short of the calling God has given us. But nevertheless, God doesn’t reject us. In fact, despite our failures, God meets us with arms wide open. In today’s sermon, we’ll explore God’s invitation to draw near. Join us as we conclude our series, ‘And Can It Be.’

  • The Meaning(s) of the Cross

If you spend much time at church, you’ll frequently see and hear references to the cross. That’s because Jesus’ death and its meaning are foundational to the Christian faith. But what exactly is the meaning of Jesus’ death? In today’s sermon, we’ll wrestle with that big question as we challenge one popular view and explore some alternative perspectives rooted in our Methodist tradition. Join us as we kick off our new series, ‘And Can It Be.’

  • True Love

Jesus calls us to love others as he loves us. And yet, so many of us have experiences where someone’s “love” looked more like an attempt to control. Are we really loving like Jesus if it’s only ever on our own terms? This week at Kindred, we’ll explore how to better love others selflessly, and for the sake of the other. Join us as we wrap up our series, ‘Language Lessons.’

  • Party Animal

Most of the time when we go to God in prayer or worship, we’re focused on sharing our concerns with God. That’s a good thing to do. However, if we want to grow in our friendship with God, we can’t only share our concerns. We have to share more. In today’s sermon, we’ll explore God’s penchant for partying and the power of sharing our celebrations with God. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Language Lessons.’

  • The Deep and Lasting Friendship

In a time where we experience unlimited connectivity, most of us feel disconnected. We long for rich and meaningful friendships where we are known, loved, and accepted.  But how do we push past the shallow picture-deep lives and dig under the surface into what’s real? And who do we invite into that sacred, vulnerable space?  In today’s sermon, we will continue exploring how to cultivate deep and lasting friendships with one another and with God. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Language Lessons.’

  • How to Trust God More

Most of us want to trust God more. We know from past experience or from watching faithful people around us that everything is better when our trust in God is stronger. But it can be hard to trust God. It doesn’t come naturally to many of us. And sometimes the hardships of life can cause us to question God’s trustworthiness. So in today’s sermon we’ll talk very practically about how we can grow in our trust of God and develop a deeper friendship with God as a result. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Language Lessons.’

  • Following Jesus Together

Friendship in our society is on the decline. The average American has fewer friends and weaker friendships than ever. For followers of Jesus, that’s not just a social problem. It’s also a spiritual problem. So in today’s sermon, we’ll explore why Jesus prioritizes friendship, why Jesus never calls anybody to follow him alone, and how we can develop the kinds of friends God wants for us. • The (Real) Purpose of Work

There is no in-person worship at Kindred today as we’re joining University UMC, our mother church, for worship. We’ll be back to our regular schedule next Sunday, June 6th. In the meantime, enjoy this recent message from Pastor Daniel that you may have missed, ‘The (Real) Purpose of Work,’ originally recorded in February 2023.

  • Be Known for Love

Most of us want to be known for something. We want the people around us to think of us as being especially successful, or smart, or funny, or useful, or good-looking, etc. And if we’re honest, we work hard to cultivate that perception. But Jesus challenges all of us to set these normal ambitions aside so we can strive to be known for something else instead. In today’s sermon, we’ll learn what Jesus wants us to be known for and why it’s so important. Join us as we conclude our series, ‘Different.’

Memory Verse: “Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.” - Romans 12:2 (CEB)
