Dean Schifferer isn't in it for the money.

Now, let's recognize that well say this.  And, truth be told, sometimes it can be hard to tell.

But, not so with Dean.  After listening to today's Kingdom Culture Conversations, you will be presented with some pretty solid evidence that profit margins are not Dean's prevailing priorities.  For Schifferer Built, Dean's general contracting firm committed to building churches, Christian schools, and ministry sites, construction is a calling and a ministry.

And, as you listen today, you might just be inspired to think about the way you approach your career and business a bit differently...

Great Hearts America is a thriving network of publicly-funded charter schools, encompassing tens-of-thousands of students in Arizona, Texas, and Louisiana.  They are rooted in what is popularly termed "Classical" education and their approach to learning and formation are very traditional.  By all accounts, they have been very successful.

But, now the game has changed.  Nationally, as the wheels (sadly and unnecessarily) come off public schools, school choice initiatives are blossoming.  Nowhere is there more true than in Arizona where families can utilize state tuition tax credit  scholarships and state-funded empowerment scholarship accounts.  The net effect of this has been that the demand for Christian education has gone through the roof and it's never been more affordable.

In response, Great Hearts' founder, Dr. Dan Scoggins, has launched Great Hearts Christos, a new network of Great Hearts Christian schools.

Today, we have the opportunity to hear directly from Dan in terms of his vision for the Christos initiative.  As well, we'll talk with Dr. Toyin Atolagbe, the head of school for the first two Great Hearts Christos locations and discover the Great Hearts approach to student spiritual formation.

As a function of their roles within the Association of Christian Schools International, Cecil Swetland and Jerry Bowen travel the western region of the U.S. and have a front row seat to an unsettling development within the cultural conflicts that are happening in schools and libraries.  These unlikely venues have become ground zero for the implosion of misguided gender ideologies and rampant sexualization.

While that may be disturbing enough, what is most troubling is that conflicted culture warriors are taking the battle to children and attempting an end run around parents.

What exactly is happening and what can be done?  How do we work towards winsomely working to win the hearts of these folks without sacrificing Biblical worldview?  These questions are the foundation for a powerful Kingdom Culture Conversation!

On Thursday, August 24th, 2023, Summit Ministry's Director of Biblical Worldview Education, Roger Erdvig, travelled throughout the campus of Northwest Christian School, visiting classrooms and assessing the strength of the school's Biblical worldview instruction.

Today, on August 25th, one day later, it's a Professional Development day on campus--school is closed--and teachers have assembled to hear the feedback he is going to provide as he cues up a rich morning of training.

And, in real time, as part of a fascinatingly atypical episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations, you get the chance to hear a sneak-peek of both Dr. Erdvig's assessment of Biblical worldview instruction within the school and the training that school faculty will enjoy!

Roger Erdvig's is the Senior Director of Worldview Education within Summit Ministries, one of the leading purveyors of Christian Worldview education in the world.  Erdvig's book, "Beyond Biblical Integration",  represented a tectonic thinking shift within the world of Christian education.

Now, he's pressing even further into community of Christian ed with some fighting words.

It's time to grow up.

As you will hear in today's episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations, Erdvig is working to inspire teachers and leaders into a more fully realized composite of education and discipleship.  Today, we'll revisit some key foundations within Christian worldview and ask tough questions:  How do we see these truths more fully realized in our schools, families, and churches?

Would Jesus get the Covid vaccine or wear a face mask?

Would Jesus advocate for open borders or immigration reform?

Would Jesus advocate for gun control?

Some within the church would say "yes".  Some within the church would say "no".  And, they would all point to specific scripture and Biblical passages that support their distinct positions.

Can they all be right?  How do we know?  And, how do we tackle these issues without falling into moral relativism or sliding down the slope of "your truth vs. my truth"?

Today's episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations pulls in Stefan Wilson and Nathan Johnson, two Colson Educators from the Colson Center for Christian Worldview.  Together with Chris "G" Gardiner and Geoff Brown, they have a frank and unflinching conversation that tackles all these tricky issues.

Political corruption.  Global warming.  Resurgent racism.

Summer 2023 was one for the books.

After having spent the majority of the summer working through his seminal Christian worldview work Kingdom Education, today, we check in with Dr. Glen Schultz, the founder and director of Kingdom Education Ministries.  Together, we scan some of the more significant headlines from the summer and talk through the issues and implications according to a Biblical worldview.

Summit Ministries is one of the leading Biblical worldview student engagement ministries in the world.  As a Summit rep, each year, Bonnie Blair engages schools and families, representing over 80,000 students hungering to better understand how God's word interfaces with contemporary culture.

But, before Bonnie was a culture warrior, she was a mom.

And, she was a mom whose child began to ask *those* questions.

She'd done it all "right"...Christian school, solid family, and great church.  Yet, her son was starting to ask *those* questions.

What do you do?

Can you still pray in the USA?

Turns out, yes.  You can.

With three public-school-educated students of his own, Eric Buehrer was a public school teacher before founding Gateways to Better Education.  He is a published author and nationally-recognized authority on the subject of religion and public education. His advocacy for clarity on religious freedom in public schools led to meetings with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, meetings with Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, and the 2020 updated release of the U.S. Department of Education’s “Guidance on Constitutionally Protected Prayer and Religious Expression in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools.”

In today’s often-contentious climate, in which the classroom has become the front lines in the culture wars, Eric's approach is unique as it emphasizes camaraderie, not conflict; and reason, not rage.

In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, you'll be surprised to learn that the prevailing public understanding of what is legally acceptable in terms of Biblical worldview in public school classrooms is incorrect.   And, Eric is campaigning to see American parents and teachers better understand that Biblical worldview in public school classrooms isn't just permissible, it's expected...according to laws on the books and current state standards in all fifty states.

It's inevitable.  There are some pains associated with progress...and, this year, we'll have a year of progress as Northwest Christian School builds a new classroom building...the first phase in what looks to be three years of ongoing construction involving three different projects.

To walk us through the changes coming to campus during the 2023/2024 school year, we are joined within today's episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations by Mike Waypa, the NCS Director of Operations.  With oversight over the physical plant and responsibility for the forthcoming construction project, Mike will illuminate all of the ways in which we can expect the campus to improve this year and in the next several years.
