When people are crushed, even good news can sound impossible. Israel’s workload has become unbearable.
The Lord tells Moses that Pharaoh will let Israel go because of God’s strong hand. God reminds Moses that He appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, established His covenant, heard Israel’s groaning, and remembered His promise.
Romans 9 says God has mercy on whom He has mercy, so salvation depends not on human will or exertion, but on God who has mercy. Exodus 6 echoes that truth.
God is covenant-keeping and merciful. He stacks promise after promise on His own name: “I will bring,” “I will deliver,” “I will redeem,” “I will take,” “I will be,” “I will bring.” You may feel too exhausted to hold onto God, but this passage shows the Lord holding onto His people by His word.
God’s words of redemption in Exodus point forward to Jesus, who brings the greater rescue. He redeems us not with silver or force, but with His blood.
Read Exodus 6:6-7 slowly and notice every “I will.” Choose one promise and repeat it in prayer over a place where you feel too tired to believe strongly.
