Knowing vs Understanding

My favorite quote is: "Just because you know something, it doesn't mean you understand it". This sums up what I see all the time when trying to coach or train someone. We get hung up on what we think we know vs diving in deeper and trying to understand the "why" part. Why do we do it? Why is it important to make sure there isn't a better way? Change your hat from knowing to one of seeking to understand. The question becomes, are you coachable and open to new ideas and learning?
