The Reno Fire Department was called to a report of several people in distress in the Truckee River about one-thirty this afternoon. The Water Entry Team, five engines , one truck and one rescue vehicle were dispatched. They found four victims who had become separated from their floatation tubes at several locations along the river near West McCarran. All four were pulled from the river with minor injuries and hypothermia. All four are expected to recover. None of them were wearing personal floatation devices. Fire officials warn that the water is extremely cold and hypothermia is definitely a factor in all of this. They caution that once you become hypothermic you lose all ability to self-rescue.
