No one was hurt and there is no threat to the community after a drive-by shooting in Fernley

The people who oppose repeal of the Commerce Tax, say they are pleased with the Supreme Court ruling invalidating the petition.

While Ryan Gonda has been chosen to replace Nick Smith on the Washoe County School Board for District C, he's only a temporary replacement.

Prior to choosing Ryan Gonda to replace Nick Smith on Washoe County School Board, trustees decided they would only choose a temporary replacement. The permanent replacement, they decided, should be chosen by the voters.

The Nevada Supreme Court yesterday ruled that the petition that would repeal the state's new commerce tax is not fit for the ballot. The court says the summary of the petition's effects is inadequate because it does not tell voters the repeal could throw the state budget out of balance by tens of millions of dollars. The ruling is a major setback for the RIP Commerce Tax group led by Republican Controller Ron Knecht, even though justices sided with tax opponents on some arguments. The ruling invalidates some 20,000 signatures the group had gathered over the past few months and would force them to start over in trying to reach the 55,000 signature threshold by June 21.
