The Nevada Department of Transportation will break ground this month on the new Goldfield Visitor Center, on 1.25 acres, along the eastside of U.S. Highway 95 between First and Second streets in Goldfield, which is about halfway between Reno and Las Vegas. Plans call for constructing a single-story, 1,200-square-foot building which will cost just over $700,000. The semi-collapsed bottle building and existing bathrooms on the northeast corner of the site will remain untouched. Construction will finish by late fall. Esmeralda County will assume maintenance responsibilities upon completion.
