The suspect who fired a rifle multiple times from a downtown condo Tuesday night was 30 year old Lucas Stone of Reno, formerly of Sacramento. He was shot by officers and died on the way to the hospital after being treated at the scene. There were two officers from the Reno Police Department and one deputy from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office who were involved in the shooting. Sparks Police Department took the lead in the investigation per Washoe County Officer-Involved Shooting Protocol. Police believe the suspect acted alone and the shooting was not a pre-planned event. The preliminary findings suggest the suspect was shooting at people who did not exist.

Senator Dean Heller has introduced the CHIP Stability Act, legislation that will provide much-needed reassurances and federal funding to Nevada and other states for the Children’s Health Insurance Program. CHIP, which became law 20 years ago, provides medical coverage and care to vulnerable children in Nevada and across the country who otherwise may not get care. The Nevada Checkup program alone provides health care to more than 27,000 children in Nevada. As current reauthorization funding for CHIP expired on September 30th, Nevada is projected to run out of current funding on December 15th. Heller says children’s care should not be held hostage by political disputes.

Nevada Congressman Ruben Kihuen is facing calls for his resignation, from republicans and democrats after essentially admitting he sexually harrassed and pursued a 25 year old campaign staff who resigned from his campaign in 2016. Kihuen apologized for anything he may have said or done to make her uncomfortable.

Sparks Police are giving us some more information in an incident Thursday in which ahomeowner interrupted four men burglarizing his home. Police say the homeowner returned home a little after 1:00 Thursday afternoon to find a four black men trying to load the victim's large gun safe into their vehicle. They say the homeowner confronted the suspects, but one of them threatened him with a handgun. The suspects were able to get away, however Officers located the suspect vehicle and a chase followed. The suspect's vehicle crashed into another vehicle on Sparks Blvd, near Baring Blvd, and the suspects fled on foot. Officers surrounded the area and located and arrested 21-year-old Raymond Banks of California, and 20-year-old Kayshawn Smith-Harper also from California. There are reports that one other suspect has been arrested, however, Sparks Police say the Regional Gang Unit has taken over the investigation and they're looking for two black men in their late teens or early 20s.

Sparks Police have now arrested the third of four suspects in a home invasion robbery, thwarted when the resident returned home, and caught four people inside his house in Wingfield Springs.
