The state legislatures interim finance committee has approved spending more that a million dollars to fight the opioid epidemic. The plan, pushed by the Attorney General's Office includes incinerators to dispose of drugs, supplying anti overdose medications to first responders, and a full time Nevada investigator on the FBI's opioid task force. It's being funded by the Volkswagen fraud settlement. Adam Laxalt says a Nevadan dies every day from a drug overdose.....

Sentencing for a Reno doctor charged with being involved in an illegal prescription drug ring has been moved to November. Dr. Robert Rand was originally supposed to appear in court on October 23rd. It has now been pushed back to November 20th.

The U.S. Senate passed Senator Dean Heller’s amendment to provide tax relief for families with children. Heller says "passage of the amendment is a recognition that we must reduce the burden on hardworking Nevadans who are raising children and struggling to make ends meet.”

The hazardous material that closed I-80 in both directions starting at about 530 Thursday morning was Ammonium Bisulfate. It was spilled when the driver for Anderson Trucking fell asleep, rolled into the median, and the trailer seperated from the tractor and flipped. Ammonium Bisulfate is an inhalation hazard. The highway fully reopened about 1:45pm, and alternative routes were used to keep interstate traffic moving.

An MS-13 gang member, who killed two Sparks men in 2010, has been sentenced to two life terms without parole. Luis Menendez Cordero escaped justice for years, when he ran to El Salvador with the help of fellow gang members. He was eventually arrested there, and extradited back to the U.S. in 2015.
