The 6 Mile canyon fire has grown to about 200 acres, near Sugarloaf north of 6 Mile Canyon between Dayton and Virginia City. There are two helicopters, two Single Engine Air Tankers, and one air tanker battling the fire. No structures are threatened.......

The fire in the Six Mile Canyon area east of Virginia City is 35 percent contained, according to Sierra Front interagency Dispatch Center. The active part of the fire has been knocked down and firefighters are making good progress. Fire retardant lines seem to be holding. The fire is still reported to be 150 to 200 acres.....

A Nevada death row inmate told a judge he's not really concerned about pain and suffering, he just wants his execution carried out. A judge scheduled execution for Scott Dozier for the week of Nov. 13, and will hear arguments next week about what execution drugs will be used. Dozier told a judge in Las Vegas, even if they tell me it's going to be a miserable experience, "I'm still going to do it." Nevada ACLU will fight it, calling it an experimental execution.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says a suspect believed to have been involved in the stabbing of one of his deputies has been shot and taken to Renown Regional Medical Center. The sheriff says deputies were called to a report of a suspicious person at the Nugget Casino in Sparks at about 6:30 this evening. Upon arrival someone stabbed a deputy with a knife. Officers and security tried to detain the suspect in the parking lot of the Nugget, when several gunshots were fired. The suspect was injured and has been taken to Renown with unspecified injuries and unknown condition. Furlong says the injured deputy has been taken to Carson-Tahoe. He says both the suspect and the deputy were talking when taken from the scene.

The U.S. Department of the Interior is expected to release its recommendations Thursday of whether to revoke two Nevada national monuments, Gold Butte and Basin and Range, or reduce their size.

Washoe County Sherif's deputies say a suspect has been taken into custody following an hours-long stand-off in Spanish Springs. Deputies were at the location for about five-and-a-half hours. The incident began when the suspect refused to come out of the residence after deputies tried to arrest him on multiple warrants. They fired a gas of some sort into the residence and the as yet unidentified suspect finally surrendered. Alyce Taylor Elementary School, which is in the area, was placed on a code yellow alert and students were sent home on a controlled basis earlier this afternoon. The Sheriff's office has not yet released the name of the suspect or the charges on the warrants.
