The Six Mile Canyon fire has grown to 150 acres. Central Lyon County Fire Protection District tells us it is moving northeast toward Seven Mile Canyon. There are two helicopters, two Single Engine Air Tankers, and one air tanker battling the fire. No structures are threatened.....

Washoe County Sherif's deputies say a suspect has been taken into custody following an hours-long stand-off in Spanish Springs. Deputies were at the location for about five-and-a-half hours. The incident began when the suspect refused to come out of the residence after deputies tried to arrest him on multiple warrants. They fired a gas of some sort into the residence and the as yet unidentified suspect finally surrendered. Alyce Taylor Elementary School, which is in the area, was placed on a code yellow alert and students were sent home on a controlled basis earlier this afternoon. The Sheriff's office has not yet released the name of the suspect or the charges on the warrants.
