The Aspen Fire north of Sparks has scorched over 300 acres after starting near Palomino Valley Saturday night. Crews have worked day & night since the fire started to control the spread. Gail Powell with the Nevada Department of Public Safety says progress is being made.

The Aspen Fire north of Sparks grew to 315 acres since it started Saturday, it is at least 10% contained. Firefighters are concerned about 66 nearby homes, especially 15 in the immediate area......

I 80 has been closed is both directions at Gold Ranch because of a brush fire southwest of Verdi. not many details on the fire itself except that it is burning on the California side.....
