Washoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen has decided not to run for a second term. Allen suggests in a letter to sheriff's office employees, he wants to spend more time with his family, and says his wife doesn't want him working seven days a week anymore. He also says he wants to focus on his job for two years, without the distraction of a re-election campaign.

Sparks Police are looking for three young males after a robbery at Scheels this evening around 5pm. Customers called 911 to report a man waving a gun. Security officers tried to stop the men just outside the store for failing to pay for merchandise, but one of the robbers pulled a handgun and threatened the employees. He escaped in a light-colored SUV. Police say the robbers appear to be teenagers or very young men. New University of Nevada Football Coach Jay Norvell has announced that Jeff Casteel will be the new defensive coordinator for the Wolf Pack. Casteel most recently was the DC and linebackers coach at Arizona in 2015. He has coached at the FBS level for 16 years. Scott Boone, Nevada's former defensive coordinator, left the team after the departure of head coach Brian Polian. In an odd game of musical chairs, Boone has just been named as the linebackers coach at Arizona.

The latest "Click it or Ticket" campaign didn't catch many seat belt violations, but did nail a lot of speeders. The Washoe County Sheriffs Office made 275 stops between November 14th and December 10th, and issued 360 citations. Only five were for not wearing seatbelts. 151 were for speeding and 93 were for cellphone use while driving. The campaign is funded by grants from the Office of Traffic Safety of the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

A man has been arrested after a December 14th crash on US50 Alternate south of Fernley. 54-year-old Steven Murray of Alta, California, crossed the center line, and his Mercedes sedan crashed headon into a Honda Civic driven by 25-year-old Steven Johnson of Silver Springs. The NHP said Johnson died at the scene. Murray was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with non-life threatening injuries and was arrested upon release from the hospital. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Murray was possibly impaired before the crash, and was booked at the Lyon County Jail in Yerington for DUI-Drugs with death, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Driving left of Center.
