The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District's free ash plan program has been very popular - so popular that they've run out of cans! Over the last week, they've given away about 120 ash cans and have put in another order. The cans help prevent household fires by keeping ashes safe until they've cooled, and they can also be used to store oily rags. If you still want one, you can submit an Ash Can Application to be put on the waiting list, and you'll be notified when they're back in stock. If you're in a hurry, most local hardware stores carry them for $15 or less.

The Trump transition team has reportedly asked the Department of Energy about the possibility of restarting plans to build a nuclear repository at Yucca Mountain, about 100 miles outside Las Vegas. But conservation activists say Trump is unlikely to succeed.
