Truckee Meadows Fire doused a fire at 5725 Sidehill Drive in Sun Valley reported at 11:21 this morning. Four crews responded and were mopping up within an hour. The fire was confined to four rooms and the attic, no one was injured, and no other properties were damaged. The doors were locked and no one was home. Authorities believe the house was unoccupied.

Firefighters say there are more house fires when temperatures drop. They want to remind people to water their Christmas tree every day, use wood stoves and space heaters safely, and make sure the chimney is clean.

A Washoe jury has convicted a Reno man of 39 counts of child sexual assault and lewdness. 45-year-old Valentin Corrales, is being held on a $3.6 million bond and was found guilty of 12 counts of lewdness and 13 counts of sexual assault of a child under 14 , six counts of sexual assault with a child under 16, and eight counts of sexual assault. Corrales was arrested in March 2015 on the first of the charges. Each of the felonies carries a potential life term in prison. Sentencing is set for March.

The ACLU of Nevada is concerned by the events that occurred at Hug High School December 7th, and the questions it raises about the use of force. The ACLU has submitted a public records act request to the Washoe County School District to get more information about these circumstances and the policies that led to this incident.

A Lyon County man has been arrested in the shooting death of his wife. 27 year old Dustin Cooper of Mason Valley is being held in Yerington without bail, in the death of 26 year old Johnie Shadden last March. Shadden was a postal worker who was shot while on her route. The death was originally considered an accident. The FBI and Postal Service were also involved in the investigation.

Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt has announced the indictment of 55 year old Renaldo Johnson of Las Vegas, on 15 felony charges, including six counts of Misconduct in Signing, Filing or Altering Petition; six counts of Obtaining and Using Personal Identifying Information of Another, and three counts of Perjury. Johnson falsified the signatures of individuals on petitions to try to qualify the Nevada Green Party for the general election ballot, and then submitted those falsified petitions to be filed. While submitting those petitions, Johnson swore under penalty of perjury that the signatures were legitimate.

Sparks Police Department is asking for help identifying a couple connected to numerous hotel room thefts and first-degree arson. December 5th and 6th, the man and woman rented a room at the Nugget. Police say the couple stole things from multiple rooms, and one guest saw them leaving a room with that guest’s belongings. When the victim confronted the couple, they ran to a room on the 12th floor. The victim called police, that's when the theiving couple started a mattress fire, as a distraction which allowed them to run off with the stolen property. Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call the Sparks Police Detective Division.

A 14 year old student who was brandishing a knife , was shot by a school police officer, and is in critical condition. The ACLU of Nevada is also troubled by reports that the child may have been the victim of bullying, wants to know whether the school followed statutorily required procedures. School officers carry guns, but not tasers or pepper spray.

Sierra Watch is taking Placer County to court, filing suit to overturn development approvals in Tahoe’s Squaw Valley. Tom Mooers, Executive Director of Sierra Watch says KSL Capital Partners’ development proposal for Squaw Valley threatens everything we love about Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada. He insists Placer County’s approval of the project was illegal under state planning law. The $1 billion, 25-year project would include: Highrise condo hotels; a 90,000 square foot indoor waterpark , indoor waterskiing, wave riders, bowling, arcades, and more; and 21 timeshare mansions on undeveloped land in the mouth of Shirley Canyon.

A Reno woman has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following an accident involving a pedestrian. It happened just before 11 o'clock last night near the Morris Hotel on East 4th Street. Witnesses reported that the victim was unloading some items from her car, when another vehicle heading eastbound crashed into her. Police say she taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Alexandria Walls was booked into the Washoe County Detention facility for DUI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession with Intent to Sell.
