Search and rescue rescue crews have found the body of a 60 year-old skier who got trapped in an avalanche at Mount Rose Saturday morning. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office got the report a little after ten Saturday morning. They dispatched search and rescue teams to the area. They stopped the search Saturday night, due the threat of further avalanches. Crews with dogs found the body this afternoon.

A pedestrian who was jaywalking Saturday night in South Lake Tahoe when he was struck by a driver has died. South Lake Tahoe police are not releasing the name of the pedestrian. They said Peng Shao of San Jose, Calif., was driving a Toyota Prius west on Lake Tahoe Boulevard at about 35 to 40 mph and did not see the pedestrian, who police said was about 100 yards from a marked crosswalk at Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Carson Avenue. Shao stopped to try to help the pedestrian. He cooperated with the investigation and police are trying to determine if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office first received the report around 10:15 a.m.on Saturday and began searching the area. Crews were were able to locate the body this afternoon. Mike Pierce with Mt. Rose says that two skiers, both 60 year-old men, had hiked up to a closed area called the the 'Jack Pot Chute' when an avalanche occurred. One of the two skiers got caught in the avalanche. The man's identification is being withheld.
