December 09, 201612/8/16 9 PM - Top of the Hour NewscastThe Washoe County District Attorney's office says the March 10th shooting of a man in Lemmon Valley was justified. 22-year-old Arteair Porter was described by his family as schizophrenic and the report by the district attorney’s office listed several run ins he had previously with law enforcement, several of them resulting in his committal to the state mental health hospital. Porter originally called 911 to report he was suicidal because his daughter had died and his wife was pregnant with another child. The investigation showed he had no daughter or wife. Porter told dispatchers at one point he had a rifle and later said he had a shotgun. It turned out to be a Daisy BB gun. Cody William Jeffcoat was arrested for felony burglary after the homeowner reportedly showed up and found Jeffcoat loading camera equipment into a back pack inside the residence. Jeffcoat took off running after the confrontation, and was identified from fingerprints he left at the scene. Jeffcoat was arrested at his home in Dayton without incident....more5minPlay
December 09, 201612/8/16 11 PM - Top of the Hour NewscastNevada tax collections are on the rise but economic experts predict the rosier outlook won't translate into enough revenue to cover all the money state agencies are requesting for the next two-year budget cycle. The Economic Forum projected this week that the state will collect $7.9 billion in general fund tax revenue in fiscal 2017-18. That's about a 7 percent increase or $541 million more than the current $7.3 billion budget approved in 2015. But it's still between $300 million and $600 million less than the total requests state departments submitted to Gov. Brian Sandoval in October. That means Sandoval will have to cut spending from the preliminary requests, seek new levies or redirect existing revenue to the general fund to help balance the budget as required by state law....more5minPlay
