A man who was hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk on Virginia St. near 17th St. this past weekend has died. He is identified as 24 year old Alexander Trussel of Reno The vehicle fled the scene but was located abandoned a few hours later. The driver turned himself in. He is 26 year old Brian Pippen. Police say alcohol and marijuana were factors in the crash. He faces a variety of charges including felony hit and run. The crash happened in the same crosswalk where local sportscaster JK Metzger lost his life five years ago.

Governor Brian Sandoval continues to oppose the proposed high-level nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain, regardless of whether President elect-Donald Trump decides to back idea. The governor told the Las Vegas Review Journal he hasn't talked to Trump and doesn't know his position, but says it won't affect his long-held opposition to Yucca Mountain. A Wall Street Journal editorial earlier this week urged Trump to revive the Yucca Mountain repository to address the growing stockpiles of nuclear waste at sites around the country.

Reno police are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian at Sixth and Lake Streets this evening at about 6:00. The victim has been taken to a hospital and the driver of the car is cooperating with police. It is not yet known if the woman victim was in a crosswalk when she was struck. Officers are currently questioning witnesses and the investigation will be taken over by the Major Accident Investigation Team. Sixth Street between Lake and Evans is closed for the investigation. The condition of the woman pedestrian is not known.

The Nevada Indian Commission plans to honor four Nevadans for their contributions to the American Indian community this weekend. The ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City, and takes place at the annual American Indian Achievement Awards Banquet and Silent Auction, which is in its seventh year. It's a statewide effort to recognize Nevadans who have positively influenced the lives of American Indians. The event celebrates American Indian Heritage Month as proclaimed by Gov Sandoval, and helps raise funds to support a new cultural center at the former Stewart Indian School.

Reno Police are looking for the driver who hit and killed a pedestrian at the intersection of 4th and Washington last night. Reno's Major Accident Investigation team responded to the scene just before 7 o'clock and found that the victim was struck by two vehicles. The driver of the first vehicle did not stop after hitting the pedestrian, who was likely in a crosswalk. Reno PD's Eric Frieberg says always use caution when crossing the street, even when crossing legally.
