The Regional Transportation Commission's loss of 1.4 million dollars in a "Spearfishing" scheme, in which they thought the money was going to pay a legitimate bill, has the people who run the organization shocked and angry. RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson says some progress has been made in the investigation.

A Nevada-based mining company is fighting a lawsuit accusing it of negligence, in a case in which security personnel at its mine in Guatemala shot multiple protesters. The company is also registered in Canada, and the hearing took place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

A fire at Reed High School damaged a portable classroom this morning, the Washoe County School District said. The fire badly damaged the roof and part of the interior.

A Las Vegas federal judge says he hasn't seen evidence that Donald Trump's presidential campaign is training people to intimidate voters, so there's no need for the restraining order that Democrats wanted.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday on a charge of sexual assault of a child younger than 14, and two counts of lewdness with a child younger than 14. 42 year old Brijesh Patel, knew the boy who was the victim. Patel is being held without bail in the Washoe County jail. Investigators say there is nothing to indicate that there are additional victims but this is an ongoing investigation.

Democratic Party organizations in Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio have filed similar lawsuits in federal courts asking for orders that would prevent Donald Trump's campaign and others from taking part in activity that could intimidate voters. A federal judge in Las Vegas today made official his finding that the Nevada Republican Party and the Donald Trump campaign are not training people to intimidate voters in Nevada. Judge Richard Boulware says he'll hold a hearing in Las Vegas Monday before deciding whether to restrict Election Day exit polling by Republican political operative Roger Stone's "Stop the Steal" group.

Governor Brian Sandoval has named Pamela Ertel, a third grade teacher at Minden Elementary School, the 2017 Nevada Teacher of the Year. Gov. Sandoval, presented Ertel with the award Friday at Minden Elementary. The Governor says “Education is my top priority and it is an honor to recognize Ms. Ertel who is truly a special teacher.” Ken Stoll, Minden Elementary Principal, said Ertel is perhaps one of, if not the most, child-centered teachers he has ever had the good fortune to work with.
