The fire is burning in the area of Franktown Road and is moving toward Bowers Mansion and Joy Lake Road. It was reported at 1:38 this morning. About 360 firefighters are fighting the fire and more resources are on the way. Multiple agencies are responding to the fire. The fire is being pushed by high winds creating erratic fire behavior. Residents in Franktown Rd and W Washoe Valley may return to inspect damage as long as they show ID to law enforcement. Everyone who lives on the east side of Washoe Lake or the east side of I-580 can return home.

However, Old U.S. 395A and Franktown Road in Washoe Valley are closed. Multiple areas have experienced power outages.

Officials say if you need to travel between Reno and Carson City, heading through Virginia City is your best option. Evacuations are underway for people living on Franktown Road and living in east Washoe Valley. Anyone living in the area should prepared for possible evacuation orders. An evacuation center has been set up at Depoali Middle School, 9300 Wilbur May Parkway in Reno. Officials say anyone with large animals should head to the Livestock Events Center.
