The brand new animal shelter in Carson City is open, with a special Open House Saturday, and Sunday, October 9. The new animal shelter broke ground in October 2015 and replaces the old shelter, which was built in the 1960’s. The facility, named Nevada Humane Society Carson City Center, will include Maddie’s® Adoption Center, a veterinary clinic, licensing, lost and found pet housing, and more. Funding for Nevada Humane Society Carson City Center came from revenue from a 1/8 percent sales tax, donations from Nevada Humane Society and Carson Animal Services Initiative.

A 34-year-old Carson City man wanted by Yuba County, California for suspicion of attempted murder, has been arrested. Francisco Xavier Fernandez, a motorcycle gang member who lives in Carson City and Yuba City, was arrested during a high risk traffic stop at around 8 p.m Wednesday, in the 4600 block of Highway 50 East.

He had an active warrant, issued out of California Superior Court for attempted murder. Last month, Carson City Sheriff’s investigators and California authorities were involved in serving interstate property search warrants at a Tanglewood Village Apartment House address on Roop Street, and also at Nautical Customs, a motorcycle shop located on Highway 50 East.
