The Sparks Police Department is looking for driver who injured a 10-year-old boy on Saturday. Police responded to the accident around 5:45 p.m. and a short investigation determined that a vehicle had struck a child and that the driver took off, never exiting the vehicle to check on the child. The boy was transported to Renown Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. Sparks PD says the child was in a marked crosswalk on a push scooter, next to another child, when he was hit. The suspect vehicle is described as a white early to mid 2000's model Chevrolet passenger car, believed to be 4-door.. with Non-tinted windows and a blue Nevada license plate with white lettering. Anyone with information is asked to call Sparks PD or Secret Witness.

Julia Ratti has resigned her Ward 1 seat on The Sparks City Council effective today (Sunday, October 9). Ratti was appointed by the Washoe County Commission to the State Senate, representing District 13 for the 30th Special Session of the Nevada Legislature. The session, which begins tomorrow (Monday, October 10), was called to discuss financing for a $1.9 billion football stadium and $1.4 billion convention center expansion in Las Vegas. Mayor Geno Martini is not expected to fill the seat prior to the general election in November.
