Want to win one of the "Welcome to Nevada" signs? The Nevada Department of Transportation says you have less than a month to get into the raffle for four signs that have graced the gateways to the Silver State for about 25 years. The old logo is being replaced, but NDOT wanted to see the old signs rehomed, so to speak, and the deadline to get involved is coming up at 5pm October 21st. All you have to do is log onto nevada-d-o-t-dot-com, and enter there, or give them a call at 888-70-00. Only one entry per person, and winners must be Nevada residents. The new logo designs for the new signs that will replace the old ones were all created by Nevada High school graphic art students.

U.S. Representative Cresent Hardy took to the House floor yesterday to speak out against a new overtime rule implemented by the US Department of Labor. Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt is spearheading a federal lawsuit to try to overturn the law. The overtime rule would affect an estimated 4.2 million Americans. It would double the minimum salary cutoff under which employers must pay their coworkers overtime. Hardy and Laxalt both believe it could increase the cost to operate a business and could even force employers to reduce hours, reduce pay, and force layoffs. Local labor representatives believe it would close the wage gap because businesses would have to pay overtime to salaried employees making less than $47,476 a year.

Governor Sandoval says he will call a special session to work out details of the public funding of a stadium for the Raiders in Las Vegas. He expects it to be mid October at the latest, and plans to talk over a date with Legislative leaders. In a statement, the Governor says he reviewed the work of a southern Nevada tourism panel, and is comfortable with their recommendations. The panel wants to raise Las Vegas room taxes, to cover 750 million of the 1.9 billion dollar project. he calls it an investment in the states foundational industry, tourism.

The best of the best will be named at the Food Truck Coof-off in Idlewild Park this Friday. The annual competition will pit eight food trucks and three dessert trucks for the titles of Best Food, Most Unique, Best Dessert and People's Choice. The event starts at 5 p.m. The judges' choice awards will be announced at 7 p.m., and the people's choice award at 8 p.m. There will be 25 vendors total for Food Truck Friday.

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell last week to the lowest level since July, more evidence that U.S. workers are enjoying job security.
