Officials with the Reno-Tahoe International Airport say three people were killed in a small plane crash at the airport at about 6:15 last night.

Three people were killed after a small plane headed to San Carlos, California crashed into the long-term parking lot at Reno-Tahoe International Airport last night. No one was injured in the parking lot. But because it is still an active investigation scene, about 75 to 100 cars will have to remain in the lot until the NTSB has concluded their investigation. Airport spokesman Brian Kulpin says the crash did not affect commercial operations

Officials with the Reno-Tahoe International Airport say that three people were killed in a small plane crash at the airport at about 6:15 this evening. Airport spokesman Brian Kulpin says a small private airplane took off westbound from the airport and immediately experienced an incident of some sort then crashed into a parking lot. Kulpin says the names of the three victims won't be released until relatives have been notified. He says several cars were damaged in the crash and that many are within the investigation scene which may be closed for several hours.

Cal Fire officials say The Willard Fire burning about seven miles southwest of Susanville on the south side of Highway 36 has burned an estimated 1000 acres. There is no containment on the fire at this time. Mandatory evacuations are in place for the Gold Run area and Hidden Hills Drive and in the Cheney Creek drainage east of Devil’s Corral. Residents of the River Bench Road, and Gold Run and Susan Hills areas of Susanville are asked to closely monitor fire activity. An evacuation center is open at the Community Church of Susanville, located on Numa Road near the intersection of Cameron Way. Large animals can be evacuated to the Lassen County Fairground, on Russell Avenue in Susanville. There are more than 62 engine crews battling the blaze along with 41 hand crews, 11 bulldozers, seven helicopters and ten air tankers for more than 11-hundred resources battling the fire.

Airport Spokesman, Brian Kulpin says a Piper Cherokee took off westbound on the airports east west runway, immediately experienced some sort of incident and crashed into the parking lot. Kulpin says several cars were damaged in the crash and that many are within the investigation scene which may be closed for several hours. He says airport personnel are working to locate the vehicle owners and notify them of the situation. The airport is not releasing any information about possible casualties from the crash. Airline flight schedules have not been effected.

It is not known yet if there are any casualties. Airport and fire personnel are gathering information and say it will be provided as soon as possible.

The BLM has conducted a roundup that wrapped up last week of 60 wild horses that had found their way out of the Antelope Valley Complex HMA, and onto private land nearby. The roundup, south of Wells, used bait and water lures, rather than helicopters, which horse advocates are against. Greg Diemel (dime-ell) with the BLM.
