An opponent of WC-1, the tax hike for school repairs and construction, has filed suit challenging the legality of the Washoe County ballot measure.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash of a small plane into the longterm parking lot at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is issuing a warning to Northern Nevada residents about potential conflicts with coyotes. Urban Wildlife Coordinator Jessica Heitt says that coyote pups leave their mothers in the fall and start hunting on their own. That leads to more sightings and conflicts, such as attacks on small dogs and cats, but attacks on humans are rare. Heitt says people should work with their neighbors to remove things that might attract coyotes, like pet food, garbage and fruit from trees.

The Sparks Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a man authorities suspect of aggravated stalking. Mario Thomas Mendonca, from Reno, is also suspected of violating a temporary protective order. Police described him as white, 5 feet, 8 inches, 220 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Secret Witness is offering a $250 reward for information leading to his arrest.

The City of Sparks will officially have a new fire chief on Monday. Christopher Maples will be sworn in tomorrow at 2 p.m. Sparks City Manager Steve Driscoll said the city has a tradition of selecting a new chief from the ranks. Maples has worked for the Sparks fire department for 21 years.
