Reno police have arrested Juan Jose Rodriguez in connection with an overnight battery in downtown Reno. A 68-year-old man was walking near the Washoe District courthouse on South Virginia Street around 10:30 last night, when he saw Rodriguez tagging the area with graffiti. When the victim confronted Rodriguez, the two got into an argument. Police say Rodriguez then hit the victim, knocking him to the ground. The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Rodriguez is charged with battery causing substantial bodily harm on a person over 60 years of age.

A 59-year-old Carson City man has been formally charged with felony first degree arson after investigators say he intentionally started a fire at an East Appion Way residence. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says Clinton Gore, also faces a felony charge of aggravated stalking, and a gross misdemeanor charge of making threats. The original misdemeanor charge of making threats was amended Friday. According to the booking report, Gore made threatening phone messages to the victim that were played for a sheriff’s office detective. He admitted to making the phone calls, but denied intentionally setting fire to the front door of the victims home and flattening their tires.

The Washoe County District Attorney's office says a 51-year-old Reno man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for robbery and battery on an elderly victim. Leonard Green was sentenced today (Friday) to 27 and one-half years in prison on one count of robbery and to 12 years in prison on one count of Battery Causing Substantial Bodily Harm. Both charges carried an elderly victim enhancement, which applies in cases where a victim is over the age of 60. In this case, the elderly female victim was 90 years old at the time of the crime. The sentences will run concurrently. The incident happened at a local casino when Green grabbed the 90-year-old woman's purse and pulled her to the floor, breaking her hip. Green had a lengthy criminal history and had been convicted of eight felonies in California.

Reno Police have arrested a man they say was caught burglarizing another man's home on Hunter Lake Drive near Mayberry Drive about 5:30 this morning. Police say the homeowner arrived at his home and confronted 31-year-old Michael Arias inside. Arias immediately ran out of the house and left on a bicycle parked nearby. Reno Police found and identified the suspect and made an arrest.
