A Fire claimed the lives of two people in west Reno early this morning The Reno Fire Department responded at 1:40 to the 1300 block of Stardust St. to an apartment fire. While en route, there was a report of 2 people trapped on a 3rd floor balcony. The first unit arrived within 3 minutes to find at least one apartment fully engulfed. The fire claimed the lives of two people's and a pet. The Red Cross is working to address the needs of approximately 20 residents who were displaced. Chloe Ortega with our News partner

The fire is being investigated by Fire officials and Police for suspicious circumstances. Damage done to the building is extensive and several units will be shut down for a an extended period. The third floor of the apartment building is now uninhabitable.

A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the sexual assault of a woman Christmas Eve 2015. 29 year old Chad Anthony Phillips was charged with the sexual assault of a 34 year old Reno woman, who was working alone inside a North Reno sandwich shop when Phillips entered, said he had a knife, and forced the woman to perform sexual acts. The victim called 911 shortly after Phillips left the store, gave a description of her assailant, and Phillips was quickly apprehended.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrested Sparks man this week for sexual misconduct with a child under the age of 16. 24 year old Luigi Richard Lopez-Delgado was taken into custody Wednesday, and is facing a number of counts, including lewdness with a child 14 or 15 years of age, use of a minor over the age of 14 to produce pornography, and luring a child to engage in sex.

The charges involve one female victim, and occurred from October through earlier this month at an residence in Washoe County. The victim was known to the suspect.

South Lake Tahoe's City Council has unanimously voted for a temporary moratorium on recreational marijuana businesses. The temporary ban is intended to stop those businesses from opening until regulations are set in place and adopted by the city. The state of California is getting ready to issue permits for recreational businesses January 2nd, giving local jurisdictions time to decide if they want the businesses in their area at all. Cities in the Golden State are required to decide on approving these shops, or denying them, before the deadline on January 1st. The temporary ban expires on January 21st, but the City Council can extend the moratorium.

A Fernley woman, who was reported missing back in November, has been found dead inside her vehicle. 57 year old Nancy Vandenput was discovered around 2pm Thursday after Lyon

County and Storey County Sheriff's were called to a report of a crash on Six Mile Canyon Road in Storey County near the border with Lyon County. When they arrived on the scene they found a pick up truck in a ravine, with Vandenput inside. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
