    Firefighters are battling three brush fires north of Reno caused by lightning. The largest is being called the Rock Fire. According to Sierra Front, it has scorched approximately 15-hundred acres. Around 300 homes are currently threatened. Also north of Reno is the Sage Fire which has burned approximately 300 acres. That fire is burning 10 miles east of Doyle. The Seven Lakes Fire burning on BLM land near the Seven Lakes area, has blackened at least 300 acres. The American Red Cross is assisting people who were evacuated from the Red Rock area last night. A temporary shelter is being set up at O’Brien Middle School on Stead Boulevard. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has set-up a Rock Fire information line at 337-5800. At this time there is no estimate for containment.

    The Nevada Department of Parole and Probation did a recent check on 186 sex offenders in Lyon County and Fallon. They made one arrest and found 26 of the offenders not in compliance with their registration requirements. The multi-agency collaborative effort, called "Operation Vigilance" was conducted in Dayton, Silver Springs, Yerington, Fernley, Stagecoach and Fallon.

  • 7/27/16 - 10 PM - Top of the Hour Newscast
    One person is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the leg at a house party on Manzanita Court near Plumas Street this morning. According to Reno Police, officers responded just after 3:00 a.m. to reports of shots fired inside a home. Police are trying to determine if the shooting was accidental.

  • 7/27/16 9 PM - Top of the Hour Newscast
    Central Lyon County Fire Protection District worked with other nearby fire crews to extinguish a fire that destroyed two homes in Dayton Wednesday afternoon. A brush truck responded to keep the fire from spreading to brush. One person was taken to a hospital to be treated for possible smoke inhalation, but there are no other reports of injuries. The family living in one of the homes is on vacation. The Red Cross is assisting a family of three and a local church is helping the second family. The cause has not been determined.

  • 7/27/16 7 PM - Top of the Hour Newscast
    Game wardens have arrested a suspect in the illegal killing of a bull elk in Lincoln County last August. 26-year-old Zackry Holdaway was arrested following an investigation by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Holdaway allegedly shot the elk, removed it's head, and left the rest to waste near Pearson Ranch in Lincoln County.
