  • 7/28/16 8 PM - Top of the Hour Newscast
    Police are continuing investigating an officer involved shooting that took the life of a man late this morning. Sparks Police got a call this morning shortly before 11:00 about someone driving Jeep the wrong way on Greenbrae Street at 70 miles an hour and hitting vehicles as he went. A short time later, officers found the car and the man driving it in the area of First and Richards. A pursuit began and after police pulled the jeep over problems reportedly escalated and officers fired, shooting the man. They immediately began attempting to revive the man with CPR, however, paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. His identification is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.

    Firefighters are battling three brush fires north of Reno caused by lightning. The largest is being called the Rock Fire. According to Sierra Front, it has scorched approximately 15-hundred acres. Around 300 homes are currently threatened. Also north of Reno is the Sage Fire which has burned approximately 300 acres. That fire is burning 10 miles east of Doyle. The Seven Lakes Fire burning on BLM land near the Seven Lakes area, has blackened at least 300 acres. The American Red Cross is assisting people who were evacuated from the Red Rock area last night. A temporary shelter is being set up at O’Brien Middle School on Stead Boulevard. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has set-up a Rock Fire information line at 337-5800. At this time there is no estimate for containment.

    Fire fighters are battling multiple fires burning in the Red Rock area. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District says residences have been evacuated along Branding Iron Road. The American Red Cross reports it is assisting 300 to 400 people who have been evacuated and a temporary shelter has been set up at O’Brien Middle School on Stead Boulevard. The largest of the fires is being called the Rock Fire. It has burned an estimated 15-hundred acres. Multiple agencies are on the scene of the fires which are believed to have been started by dry lightning. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has set-up a Rock Fire information line at 337-5800.
