    Before this year, there hasn’t been a new class of recruits for the Reno Fire Department in nearly eight years. But that’s about to change for the second time. Thirty-one recruits have joined the Reno Fire Department in 2016, with the newest class of 16 recruits getting ready to graduate after completing a twelve-week Recruit Academy.The Reno Fire Department recently updated the nearly 30-year-old firefighter test and included a two-tiered interview process with five different members of the department, including the chief, before recruits were offered a position, according to a report. There were about 750 applications for this recruitment period. A commencement ceremony for the second class of 2016 Reno Fire Department recruits will be today from 2 to 5 p.m. at the McKinley Arts and Culture Center.

    A Pahrump woman accused of falsifying voter registration applications has been arrested. Tina Marie Parks is facing 11 felony charges. The complaint says she fraudulently marked the party affiliation while registering them to vote for the June Primary. Parks worked for "Engage Nevada" a conservative community organization. The group says it is cooperating with law enforcement and says this kind of alleged misbehavior is intolerable. The mis-registration apparently denied people the right to vote in the democratic primary.

  • 7/14/16 10 PM - Top of the Hour Newscast
    Sparks Police have arrested 19 year old Samuel Turnow for involuntary manslaughter in the death of 23 year old Rodney Wright of Reno. Wright was killed February 12th while riding in a car with a group of people. Turnow had a handgun he was showing to people in the car, when it discharged and hit Wright. Turnow is being held at the Washoe County jail for involuntary manslaughter, attempted robbery, illegally carrying a concealed weapon, and destroying or concealing evidence.

  • 7/14/16 9 PM - Top of the Hour Newscast
    A public memorial service will be held for Bureau of Land Management firefighters Jacob O’Malley and Will Hawkins Tuesday. The service will take place at the Winnemucca Events Complex Exhibit Hall at 1000 Fairgrounds Road in Winnemucca from 1:00–4:00PM The men were killed in a crash on Highway 140 north of Winnemucca July 10. 23-year-old Zachary McElroy of Reno was a passenger, he survived the rollover crash, that happened when a tire blew out on the firetruck.
