It took many water and retardant drops, and the Raven helicopter spent more than five hours in the air to battle it, but the Sparks Fire is now contained. The fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon scorched more than 25 hundred acres, burning above the area between Northern Nevada Medical Center and the Sparks "S". Business at the hospital was un-interrupted. The once fast moving fire mostly burned light grass and brush uphill, away from structures. Sparks Fire, Reno Fire and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District have fought the fire, with air and land support from the Nevada Division of Forestry. RAVEN reported dropping 11,421 gallons of water in 47 drops. Cause of the fire is under investigation, three juveniles seen in the area are being sought.
