    There's still no future trial date set for the motorcycle gang member who had his conviction overturned in the killing of a rival gang member. Washoe District Court judge Connie Steinheimer ordered defense lawyer David Houston to file a document with the court that shows Ernesto Gonzalez, 57, has paid Houston $45,000 to hire him as his defense lawyer. Last December, the Nevada Supreme Court unanimously sent the case back for retrial, ruling Gonzalez did not get a fair trial the first time.

    An investigation is underway after several sheds caught on fire on Cordone Avenue in Reno yesterday afternoon. Black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky, near Vassar Street and Kietzke Lane, just before 3 p.m. Firefighters say they quickly knocked down the fire. Crews say one person suffered minor smoke inhalation.

    A Washoe County School District police officer got a family out of a home near a fire yesterday afternoon, but suffered smoke inhalation. The officer will be okay, according to District Spokeswoman Vicki Campbell. The officer was doing a site check at Vaughn Middle School on Vassar Street, when he saw smoke coming from a fire in a yard on nearby Cordone Avenue. At some point he got the attention of the family inside and got them out. Reno Fire investigators say the house itself was not badly damaged, but sheds in the back yard went up in flames. No cause has been determined.

    A former law enforcement officer's now behind bars at the agency where he once worked. Former Washoe County Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Casacca has been arrested and charged with selling sensitive information to an undercover agent posing as a drug dealer. An FBI agent with the Reno office says he learned in January 2014 that a deputy had been selling sensitive law enforcement information to local drug dealers. Casacca allegedly met with a confidential informant at a strip club,saying he would consider working for a drug operation and could provide information, such as running license plate numbers or accessing names in law enforcement data bases.
