    The Hawken fire is now more than 75% contained and firefighters say the threat to homes is over. The nearly 300 acre blaze came dangerously close to a few homes at Hawken Road and Pronghorn Court when it first broke out just after 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Truckee Meadows Chief Charlie Moore credits the quick call for mutual aid resources, and an aggressive attack on this fire. As winds calmed they were able to get air resources over the fire, and worked to knock out hot spots and flareups. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

    The Hawken Fire burning in the Caughlin Ranch area of west Reno is now estimated at about 300 acres with 20% containment but fire officials say it is no longer growing in size. The fire started just after 1:00 Wednesday afternoon and quickly grew from an estimated 50 acres before rapidly leaping to 200 acres. 50 homes were threatened at one point. Evacuees were directed to Reno High School, but that voluntary evac order was lifted at 8:00 last night and all residents were allowed back in their homes.

    The Hawken Fire is burning less intensely now that winds have died down, which allowed Washoe Country Sheriff's RAVEN helicopter crews to begin making water drops, they are just now wrapping up air operations for the night.
