  • 6/16/16 12pm - Top of the Hour Newscast
The Hawken Fire is estimated to have burned over 300 acres in the Caughlin Ranch area. The initial fight saw about 250 firefighters on the line. Winds limited the fight to just ground crews, keeping helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from being used to attack the flames. The change in the winds later in the day, however, allowed the Washoe County Sheriff's RAVEN helicopter and crew to finally get off the ground and made several water drops. 50 homes were threatened for a while, which saw a voluntary evacuation put into place. That evacuation order has been lifted. Fire officials say they are confident they have a handle on the blaze.
