https://RandallCarlson.com/links https://youtube.com/TheRandallCarlson https://youtube.com/geocosmicrex We head back to Meteor Crater and dig into the definitive 1997 paper by David Kring on the effects of the blast wave from the central Arizona impact 50,000 years ago. Much was learned from the detonations of nuclear weapons during the 1950's, with numerous craters blasted out in the Yucca Flats of Nevada. The estimates for a similar event every 1600 years are pondered, and we figure that those periods are considered to be even shorter now. Then we revisit a few other spots from our "Southwest Experience" in October, including a stop to see the distinct Black Mat at Murray Springs, petroglyphs at Chevelon Canyon, and Monument Valley – where the "Great Denudation" begs for questions about the erosional processes that shaped those landscapes, and the history of seismicity that should've toppled the fragile sandstone spires long ago. Unless of course, that those erosional processed occurred much more recently than previously imagined…

Getting back to the "same sediment", we are reminded of the link between the micro/macro evidence that can assist with the identification of potential impact sites into the ice sheets. Following the path of waterflows on various maps from the Lake Nipigon basin down thru Lake Superior and the massive spillway channels of Minnesota and Wisconsin, we consider the creation of the mass of meltwater-derived features while attempting to grasp the scale of the events that ultimately encompassed the entire planet during the terminal Ice Age catastrophes.

https://RandallCarlson.com/links https://youtube.com/TheRandallCarlson https://youtube.com/geocosmicrex Looking to continue the discussion on drumlins, RC and crew again attempt to grok the widespread shifts that would have filled the many proglacial lakes and released the catastrophic drainings across the landscapes. What was the chronology of these interrelated events, and could the time-scale be compressed from what has been figured for decades? While making repeated references to the "Missoula Floods" and the accepted story of the ice dam and ever-present strandlines, RC raises perceptive questions that will be probed as we move forward, and link the megafloods to a comprehensive continental catastrophe. We look at sites from our 2017 trip with Jerome Lesemann in south-central British Columbia, digesting his plentiful geologic knowledge and admiring the effects of the subglacial floods across the region.

https://RandallCarlson.com/links https://youtube.com/TheRandallCarlson https://youtube.com/geocosmicrex We look back at last week's lesson on drumlins from guest Jerome Lesemann, marveling as it seems he did, at the "absolutely astounding" scale of the water-flushed features created at the bed of a continental ice sheet. Many questions remain about the source of the meltwater and the details of massive Glacial Lake Agassiz. Its release thru Big Stone Lake on the Minnesota River has left many clues that we can learn to recognize as features indicating megafloods in other locations. Relict flood channels with "misfit" rivers are difficult to explain with gradualist principles, so attempts by Dury that had to include a paleo-river that was much larger than the modern flow were early indications of a flaw in the Uniformitarian model. Then RC considers Washington's Palouse Hills as analogous to some of Jerome's crescentic forms, and finally, shares photos of an impressive site in the Okanogan Valley.

https://RandallCarlson.com/links https://youtube.com/TheRandallCarlson https://youtube.com/geocosmicrex Jerome Lesemann, from Vancouver Island University, is a drumlin expert, and student and colleague of pioneer of the Meltwater Hypothesis for the formation of drumlins – John Shaw. After some introductory reminiscing, we let Jerome have the floor and educate us about the enigmatic geomorphological features known as drumlins. Their presence far and wide across North America, beneath the former continental ice sheets is put into perspective. Though supported by hydraulic modeling and analogy across seven orders of magnitude, the widespread and various forms' genesis is still contentious and controversial, hundreds of years after the phenomenon was first observed! The fields of drumlins are SO vast, that the quantities of water necessary to create them all is "absolutely astounding" and the major hurdle to acceptance of the hypothesis. Perhaps the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis will offer a boost to its explanatory potential… Kosmographia Ep047 The Randall Carlson Podcast with Brothers of the Serpent – Kyle and Russ, Normal Guy Mike and GCREX admin Bradley, from 09/14/20.

https://RandallCarlson.com/links https://youtube.com/TheRandallCarlson https://youtube.com/geocosmicrex While reviewing the events around the catastrophic drainings of Glacial Lake Agassiz, the ongoing question arises: What was the impulse of energy that initiated the domino procession of megafloods? We continue to marvel at the oversized mid-continent spillways in the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin – investigating multiple sites with the "advanced viewer" on the USGS National Map website, with particular focus on the underfit rivers, the massive potholes along the St. Croix (that we explored with Graham Hancock in 2014), and the discharges thru Lakes Nipigon and Superior. RC then broadens the connotations of "lake" to include more temporary impoundments of meltwater, which leads to a critical assessment of the current model of Lake Missoula and its Ice Dam. And in preparation for next episode's special guest, Jerome Lesemann, we get an introduction to Canada's extensive drumlin fields… Kosmographia Ep046 The Randall Carlson Podcast with Brothers of the Serpent – Kyle and Russ, Normal Guy Mike and GCREX admin Bradley, from 09/07/20.

https://RandallCarlson.com/links https://youtube.com/TheRandallCarlson https://youtube.com/geocosmicrex RC wonders why there has been no coherent theory that connects all the known megaflood events with the rapid deglaciation from 14.6 – 11.6ka. Lake Agassiz was like an inland sea of fresh water, dwarfing the modern "Great Lakes" that drained off thru multiple routes back to the oceans, in many places with known catastrophic erosion. Massive mid-continent spillways contain the meandering underfit modern rivers, but were once channels for outrageous volumes of meltwater. We question the formation of glacial Lake Missoula and the force that pushed the first domino and initiated the sequence of catastrophes, as we continue to build our vocabulary and grammar that is allowing us to read the language of the landscapes – known as geomorphology. Identical features are on Mars and in stream-beds, illustrating the scale-invariant nature of water doing its work of erosion and deposition. In a final rant during this distributary episode, Randall supports Graham Hancock and bashes those that ask for credentials. He called them the Spokane Floods and speculated that the floods came from accelerated melting of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet, but later tentatively accepted the uniformitarian explanation that an ice dam repeatedly formed and released a giant impounded lake from western Montana. We then continue to assess phenomenal Lake Agassiz and its many outflow spillways to the south thru southern Manitoba, the Dakotas and Minnesota, funneling into the channel at Big Stone Lake, and compare some of the identical megaflood features that have been imaged on planet Mars.
