Today, we follow up on the Defense for Children International – Palestine v. Biden court case, where a federal judge dismissed the case but with language that agreed that Israel’s violence seems to equate to a genocide, and urges the government to stop its “unflagging support” of Israel’s war machine. We’re in conversation with Maria LaHood, one of the lawyers with the Center for Constitutional Rights who is working on this court case. Maria has championed this work for decades, having been involved in the Rachel Corrie legal case in the mid 2000s.

A new report from CalMatters shows that California’s averages more than $132,000 in spending for each person kept in prison, per year. That amount is 90% higher than the cost to imprison someone just ten years ago in 2014. Joining us to discuss is Brian Kaneda, the Deputy Director of Californians United for a Responsible Budget (CURB), which is an organization dedicated to reducing imprisonment in our state by developing deep economic analyses about how it’s actually financially better for all of us, to reduce prisons.

In states where abortion has been completely banned, more than sixty-four thousand rapes have resulted in force pregnancy, according to a new report titled ‘Rape-Related Pregnancies in the 14 US States With Total Abortion Bans’. Dr Samuel Dickman is one of the researchers and authors of that report, as well as an abortion provider with Planned Parenthood. He joins us to discuss that research.
