  • Krush Performance: The National Football League’s Big Data Debate
The National Football League’s Big Data Debate
Is there a dark side to collecting personal data in sport?
Wearable technology has advanced very fast in a very short time and the information we are now able to access and record is mind boggling. In sport, it is typically used to help monitor a players health and state of readiness and recovery but could this very same data be used against the player?
Who owns the data? What is the value of this data? Is it for sale?
We talk with Sports Illustrated reporter and researcher Tom Taylor about his latest article, “Football’s Next Frontier – The Battle Over Big Data.”
The NFLPA has signed a 5 year deal with technology company Whoop and what they are planning to do with the data is very interesting!

  • Krush Performance: Athletics Integrity Unit w/David Howman
Athletics Integrity Unit: A Ground Breaking Development in Sport with David Howman
The IAAF needed to do something bold to reset and regain the public trust and it has done so becoming the first international sporting organization to delegate complete authority for the management of it’s integrity programs to an independent body, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
The AIU will be responsible for over seeing anti doping, bribery & match fixing, age manipulation and other areas including athlete education all in an attempt to combat threats to the integrity of the sport.
This week, we are joined by the AIU Chair, David Howman, to get an inside look at this ground breaking move and to discuss what it may mean for the future of athletics and the impact it may have on sport in general.

Gift Ngoepe grew up with his mother and two brothers in a 7 by 9 room in the clubhouse of the Randburg Mets Baseball Club outside of Johannesburg, South Africa. This week, we find out what it really takes to chase down a dream as we talk with Gift Ngoepe about his journey to becoming the first African born player to play Major League Baseball. We talk to Gift about his journey, the people that helped along the way, and what it was like to step on to a Major League field for the first time as a Pittsburgh Pirate.

  • Krush Performance: The Power Of Good Coaching w/MLB Pitching Coach Rick Knapp
The Process of Development & The Power of Good Coaching
Development is a process and it involves more common sense than you might realize.
In this fast paced “peak by Friday” approach that has taken developmental sport by storm, have we actually taken a step backwards? Dropout rates are up, injuries are up, and burn out is common place.
I have very little doubt that there is plenty of greatness out there just waiting to be exposed but I fear we have taken the wrong fork in the developmental road. We may be destroying more talent than we are creating!
This week on Krush Performance, we talk player development with Rick Knapp, the pitching consultant/coordinator for Major League Baseball International. He shares his insights on player development, kids getting good coaching, and how the common sense approach makes sense.
There is plenty of wisdom and food for thought in the jam packed conversation and it’s applications go well beyond baseball.
This is an episode you will want to share with family, friends, teammates and co-workers.

    Innovations In Player Development

This week, we talk with player agent Manny Schmidt of Link Management International about their process for developing not just athletes and players but well rounded individuals.
Also, we look at one of the world’s leading sporting organizations, Hockey Canada.
Paul Carson, Vice President of Membership Development joins us as we look back on the decision to ban body checking at the developmental levels of the game, new innovations like the “Cross Ice” program that is changing how we teach the game of hockey, and we’ll look at the top summer sports for hockey players as recommended by Hockey Canada.

Changing The Game With John O’Sullivan
Why are 7 of 10 kids dropping out of sport?
This week on Krush Performance, we take a serious look at some of the issues facing developmental sport.
First, we look at the dangers of caffeine as a 16 year old high school student, Davis Allen of South Carolina, passes away from heart complication associated with caffeine consumption. He consumed a large Mountain Dew, a McDonald’s Latte, and an energy drink in a two hour period. He had no pre-existing conditions.
Let’s talk to our kids about caffeine, where it comes from, and the issues of consuming too much.
Then, there some major concerns as 7 of 10 kids are dropping out of organized sport by the age of 13.
We are joined by John O’Sullivan, Founder and CEO of the “Changing The Game Project,” to look at the issues they are seeing in developmental sport and to discuss the all important roles of parents and coaches, coaching and coaching development, the top reasons why kids are leaving sports, and more importantly the top reasons why they play in the first place, winning by the way, didn’t even crack the Top Ten!

  • Krush Performance: Jim Fannin – “The Coach Of Champions”
A Must Listen Performance Conversation With The “Coach of Champions,” Jim Fannin
Spring and summer sports are getting underway. We also have the NHL playoffs, the NBA racing to the finish line, Major League Baseball, Soccer from the 4 corners of the earth, rumblings around the NFL, and we’re coming off of one of the most intriguing Masters in recent history.
It’s the time of year I like to check in with the “Coach of Champions,” Jim Fannin.
I called Jim to get his insights on The Masters and Sergio Garcia but our conversation went well beyond golf and turned into something that neither Jim nor I expected. It may be one of the most powerful performance conversations we have ever had on the show.
I’m going to ask a favor. Please pass this on.
If you are a parent, pass it on to family and other parents on your kid’s teams.
If you are a coach, share this conversation with the other coaches in your organization.
If you are a teacher, forward it to the other teachers in your school. For that matter, your entire school district.
If you own a business or manage people, pass this on to your entire leadership team and employees.
If you are an athlete, take some time to listen to this conversation. Get a notebook, take some notes. I mean it.
There is so much great information in this conversation about strategies on how you can improve your performance, thoughts on how you can make the people around you better, and some powerful advice for parents on how to support and nurture confidence and self esteem in your children.
It’s a must listen episode of Krush Performance right here on Radio Influence.
I can’t wait for you to hear it.
