“I have this friend that I have known for 5 years. He is a very well known Master and Top in some of my circles. He is semi-famous and sought after to play with. I have wanted to scene with him since we first met at a munch in E TN years ago. We just haven't been able to connect in person to do so and that's ok.
I was speaking last night to another Top and he asked why so many people flock to this particular fellow. My answer was initially on the lines of "He is educated." "He is well known and highly regarded." "He's a celebrity in our circles."
But I'm not that type of person. I don't go for the popular and the pretty. I am not a superficial person. I am much deeper than that when it comes to connection. Connection is very important for me even in just a scene. So what is it that draws me to a Dominant or Top? What makes me so picky?
Well, There are the basics.
Skill is a must due to safety.
Education is a must due to safety.
Having the same interests is a must or a scene wouldn't happen.
But deeper...under the surface...WHAT draws me only to specific people?
Intelligence.... I'm an intelligent person. I'm not talking book smarts or computer programing etc. I'm talking about someone that has intelligence enough to go toe to toe with my intellect. I want someone that can outsmart me if I push. I want someone that can pry into my brain and dig around and press buttons I didn't even know I had.
Intuition....Open, honest, clear communication is a must must must for me. But in a scene, I don't want to have to tell you that this particular sensation is going to drive me wild if you increase it. I want you to observe and use your intuition to take me there based on the lighter version of that sensation. I don't want someone that is going to hit my ass cheeks at 3/4 beat for the entire scene just because that's what they have seen in other scenes.
Curiosity.... I want someone that looks at my body like it's a blank canvas to write a song on. I want someone to take pleasure in finding buttons and getting reactions. I want their eyes to glaze over when I squirm or squeal. I want them to smile when they catch me in a battle of wills and they know they will win. I want someone that says "hmm.. that's what happened when I did this.. .now what if I do THIS?"
Empathy... I want someone that understands when I'm in a scene, I give my all. It's not superficial for me. I want someone that understands and can express empathy if something goes wrong or during aftercare. I don't want a Top that is going to run me through the scene like I'm on a conveyer belt and push me off to take on the next bottom.
In the years I've observed the Top in question, I've observed all of these things. That makes him desirable to me. That, sadly, makes him rare and therefore exotic.”

- The issue of consent — and whether a BDSM contract was enforced under duress — was the crux of the arguments of both prosecution and defense as the sexual assault trial of a 62-year-old man began Wednesday in Nevada County Superior Court.

Wesley Carl Panighetti is facing felony charges of sodomy by use of force, forcible oral copulation, criminal threats, first-degree burglary and dissuading a witness, as well as one misdemeanor count of battery, Nevada County Superior Court records state.
Panighetti has pleaded not guilty.

Deputy District Attorney Helenaz Moteabbed Hill told the jury Panighetti and the victim had an on-again, off-again relationship riddled with abuse for 20 years.

“This is a case about manipulation,” Hill said, adding that Panighetti had taken advantage of the victim’s naïveté and vulnerability and got what he wanted through menace and fear. His victim, Hill said, finally stood up for herself and put an end to the terror.

According to Hill, a BDSM relationship — bondage, domination, sadomasochism — can exist with the consent of both parties, but that requires that both are playing “freely and voluntarily” on the same field. That was not the case between Panighetti and the victim, whose name was not used during the trial, she said.

“He wants to claim consent existed through a legally valid contract,” Hill said. “She naively believed contact was binding simply because a notary signed off on it.”
While Hill detailed some of the abuse sustained in years past — which led to several arrests and a prior prison sentence — Hill said the charged offenses all relate to three incidents that took place in May and June 2020, in which Panighetti is alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim, strangled her multiple times and threatened to kill her.

The relationship was consensual and on occasion had been initiated or reinstated by the victim, said Panighetti’s attorney, Paul Comiskey. Comiskey cited the gaps in their involvement and the fact that the victim knew contact with Panighetti after his release from prison violated his parole terms.

According to Comiskey, the victim had told Panighetti their contract was still valid, even after speaking to an attorney, and that implied her consent to the contract. And if that didn’t constitute consent on her part, he argued, Panighetti had a “good faith belief” there was consent to engage in a BDSM relationship.

“Keep an open mind,” he urged the jury.

The trial will resume today. Panighetti remained in custody Wednesday on a $750,000 bond.

- Abuse of Power, also known as Abuse of Authority, is defined as the use of one’s position to gain an unfair advantage over another outside of that position’s scope.
To be clear, although writing about this can come across as more clinical and less dramatic, purposeful misuse of power is indeed a form of actual abuse, and its use should not be tolerated.
Abuse of Power can be done in many ways, consciously or unconsciously, and can come from a variety of sources. Some examples of this include, but is not limited to:
Using the Household name as a means of elevating one’s self in order to gain an unfair advantage over another
Trying to exert power over something that was not negotiated or agreed upon.
Using one’s title to inappropriately exert power over someone not in your sphere of influence.
Pushing a scene further than you are capable of to “show off”
Bullying or shaming
Interjecting unwanted advice into another party’s conversation
Shifting responsibility for a scene onto the other party if things don’t go well
Being a “Protector” to someone and also being involved with them romantically or dynamically
Using the dynamic as leverage against the relationship
Changing rules or protocol to suit you without notifying, considering, or negotiating with the other party
Purposely finding or creating loopholes in rules or protocol to suit you
Purposely defying boundaries, triggers, or limits
Pushing another to “pay” beyond their means (via time, money, energy, or other forms of “payments”) to be with you
Withholding communication, sex, or dynamic (outside of negotiated terms) to get your way
Using your position or title to justify doing something you shouldn’t have done

Things to remember:
Abuse of Power does not necessarily mean it is always directly related to a dynamic. Being a part of a Household or simply having many active years in the scene can very well make someone else feel like you hold more power and sway than they do, which makes it possible that this power can be abused.

It does not always come from the top. Since what we engage in is a Power Exchange, bottoms hold a degree of power as well. Abuses of Power can come from a top, bottom, dominant, submissive, master, or slave. It can come from a well-seasoned kinkster who’s been in the scene for decades or the newbie just getting their feet wet. It can be wielded by anyone.

When power is abused in the scene it can cause a multitude of problems, foremost of which is the victim who can suffer physically, mentally, psychologically, or even spiritually. As an abuse, the responsibility falls solely to the abuser, but the victim often carries the inner scars from it in the forms of distrust, depression, anxiety, and loss of self-worth amongst others.

It is important to note that the primary concept here is that power has been used inappropriately. We must all be aware that each of us is capable of Abusing Power and should strive to use it appropriately.

The socially correct way of acting.
Manners really are important no matter what lifestyle you lead, it is the basic common courtesies which most people learn as they grow up. The please and thank you, not speaking with a mouthful of food, not interrupting a conversation, etc. All things that should apply in all situations.
Protocols and Etiquette, though related to good manners, are really what many people associate with our lifestyle, and many scene people place great importance on both.
What is a Protocol? What is Etiquette?

Protocol is defined as:
A code of correct conduct
The system of rules and acceptable behavior used at official ceremonies and occasions:

Etiquette is defined as:
Conventional requirements as to social behavior.
The set of rules or customs which control accepted behavior in particular social groups or social situations

From these definitions, it is obvious that protocols are more widely recognized as being official behavior, whereas etiquette is predominantly social behavior, but the basic element is the same, they are about correct behavior in certain situations.”

The difference between a title and honorific.

Title: an earned position that has been granted by another.

Honorific: a name used by a subordinate as a sign of respect and to recognize the difference in position and status.

- This is a topic that comes directly from a listener and is one that, in my experience, isn’t really talked about outside of mentorships, really good Dominant training classes, or after the fact when there has been an issue.
- The listener, who consent to us using the messages as an example and wishes to remain anonymous, wrote:

“Question about Dom to Dom etiquette. I have a collared submissive that I allowed to play with a previous play partner (They were formerly D/s primary play partners, but she was not collared and did not need permission to play with others) This is the first time they have played since I collared my sub, it's been almost a year since they played.
We have never met in person only chatted on Kik, our communication has been respectful and the morning of the playdate I posted the rules to our group chat (the three of us) and then said Both of you have a wonderful time today. That's the last communication we have had. It's been 24 hours since they ended play.

Now to my questions @Kuldrin and others
1. What is the normal etiquette between Doms in this scenario?
2. Am I wrong for expecting some sort of Thank you for allowing him to play with my Submissive or something similar? I would definitely thank the Dom that allowed me to play with his sub.

1: It sounds like you followed proper protocol. As far as etiquette, and keeping in mind I don’t know the time frame from start to finish, I would give a little longer notice on rules.

2: No, you are not wrong. However, some people are void of social/common courtesies.
