Proximity Bias is real thing that is manifesting more as the workplace becomes increasingly virtual and remote. SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) has identified proximity bias as real problem with upwards of 40% of executives citing the inequities between remote and in-office employees as a growing concern. In fact, "bosses" may be twice as likely to prefer or favor in-office employees... perhaps leading to some workplace inequity. We are not experts on this, but that isn't stopping us from having an opinion on it. 

The first day on the job Athletic Trainers are supposed to have mastery level knowledge of leadership skills and behaviors unique to different situations and people; that is according to the 7Ed of the BOC's Practice Analysis (Domain 5, Task 1, item s.). So... when, where, and how is leadership being taught? Is this something that is really happening, why or wy not? Today Kutz & Konin chat back and forth about this intersting situation and offer a few ideas on getting it done!

How can you continue to be a top performer in your organization when the only rewards available are promotions? Eventually you will get promoted to one level beyond your capacity to continue being a top performer. Each promotion requires new and different skills. Without a lifelong skill development ("upskilling") strategy you will eventually fail! The Peter Principle is very common problem within organizational dynamics and can be a serious problem if not addressed. Kutz and Konin take a look into this phenomenon and offer suggestions to navigate this potential performance pitfall.
