  "So I listened to read for a little bit and oftentimes I'll take a turn and read his book a little bit after he said, no, you read your book and it's an adult book. It's not like adult in that it's graphic. But I was like, okay, it's a grown up nonfiction book. But I read. He was actually listening. But he laid next to me, said he felt my stomach. You're kind of fat."

  "But even so, and so much of them, because they get tested and they have to do homework assignments and things that are like done in a timely manner using the time right, the time that you have with them really matters. So like, although it seems like small things and maybe thinking you're being a perfectionist talking about these things, I mean, maybe it might sound like being a perfectionist working like talking about these things. Like if they're the worst, it doesn't feel great."

  "That was a common thing in this classroom, in this program with 10th and 11th graders at a private school, as it was with the seventh graders I worked with over the summer who generally probably come from generally not all come from less disadvantaged background. So peace, quiet and friends. Fair enough, they say. And with the color question was interesting. At least with this group. They don't like extremes in colors, which I just found really interesting. That's not all of them."

  "Right now we're doing progress reports and I'm looking on like content wise for the students. There's not much stuff to do before break. Not a ton of new stuff that I haven't prepared for already. For 10th grade in sciences they're working on a project that doesn't really require any outside work. In math they do have packets, but there's no test coming up. And then in 11th grade next week they're going to be on a trip."

  "All right, for my next book, I have five different books that came in from the library. I actually have two other books that I started that are interesting, but because the, you know, library you can only have for a certain amount of time. I'm gonna put those two books on the, on the back of the bookshelf and I think select one of these."

  "And those things can kind of tie into each other because I'm a big believer of the idea that it's one thing to just learn the facts needed to complete an assignment. But much like math or science, if you have a greater context, you can. If you have a broader sense of the things going on, like, you can add a lot to the conversation as you are pointing kids in the right direction."

  "And it, it just that whole idea, I think of the, the quote that I read. I think outside of the idea, this book is just resonates. Resonates with me pretty well. I remember when I was like 18 or 19, I had a really good friend that asked me what is my comfort zone? Like, everybody has a comfort zone because there are different kinds of. I had a certain group of friends."

  "I did for a while and that just encouraged him to read even more. And it's just a reminder that as a, both a parent, as an educator, you know, I've talked about the need, especially for young kids with. You need to be much more explicit. Well, it never hurts to be. You can never be too explicit in your education, in teaching."

  "I've tutored math for so many different certification programs and standardized tests and not just like the SAT act, going into different professions that I've seen math applied in a lot of practical ways, but not in a way that's consistent enough for specific things to like codify and say, this is how you teach this particular thing for this skill. So looking for ways to do that. So I'm trying to think, is there any other stuff anyway that's top of mind."
