One of Gov. Phil Murphy's final moves in office was to sign a bill requiring school districts to teach cursive to third- through fifth-graders. The lawmakers who sponsored the legislation say learning to read and write in cursive improves comprehension, memory, fine motor, and critical thinking skills.
Cursive hasn't been on the books since 2010, when Common Core State Standards scratched out handwriting in favor of typing skills.
