Grand County Emergency Medical Services gets busier every year. Their current call volumes are trending at a 19% increase, bringing first responders from town to the backcountry and beyond. This busy workload stretches current staff quite thin at times, according to GCEMS Director Andy Smith. KZMU News recently caught up with Smith to talk staffing, funding, and the future of the department.
