Last week, a lot was released. Therefore, we kicked off this week’s episode with some of the TV shows that premiered and returned as well as our quick tour through the UK Official Singles Chart and our summary from #newmusicfriday (1:21). As our first subject, we went back to the king of music streaming services, Spotify. We covered its latest quarterly earnings and discussed its latest acquisition in the podcast realm, Megaphone (9:40). Closing out our episode, we chatted about the mouse house’s (Disney) last quarterly earnings and the impressive numbers registered by Disney+ in its first year of life. Also, we talked about the latest details revealed about WandaVision, Marvel’s upcoming TV show (26:28).

After a special episode last week, we are back at it with some more information. However, since the US elections grabbed the world’s attention, nothing major happened in the entertainment industry. Therefore, as the announced outcome of this election celebrated the first women Vice-President, we’ve also decided to dedicate this week’s episode to a few powerful women in the entertainment industry. Nonetheless, we did start with our coverage of the UK Official Singles Chart, #newmusicfriday, and the new TV show and movie releases (2:09). Kicking off our list we had Rebeca León, co-founder, and CEO of Lionfish Entertainment, former manager of reggaetón superstar J Balvin, and current manager of music sensation Rosalía (8:51). Next, we stepped into streaming to chat about Bozoma Saint John, former Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Endeavor and the new CMO for Netflix (22:06). Last, but certainly not least, we talked about Ava DuVernay, the person who directed the Oscar-nominated movie Selma and the mind behind Netflix hit show When They See Us (33:08).

In 2020, we spoke about many things multiple times. Within the entertainment industry, one of these subjects has been streaming services. The other one, not necessarily a subject per se, has been how much content there is out there.

For this week’s episode, we were delighted to be joined by Stephen Beres, fellow Full Sail University graduate and HBO’s VP of Media and Production Operations. Steve answered some questions regarding the future of television amid substantial growth in popularity of streaming video-on-demand platforms and some differences in the production of content for “television” from some years ago and now.

As our first subject, we stepped into the gaming world to chat about the revolutionary League of Legends Worlds Championship that is currently happening in Shanghai, China (10:29). Why revolutionary? Well, let’s just say that the increment in prize money over the years plus the technology implemented in this year’s edition are just baffling. Thereafter, as our second segment, Netflix makes another appearance in our podcast as we covered its latest financial quarter (28:17). From there, we closed out the show by answer a question from one of our listeners, which coincidently was related to the streaming service.
