  • EP 392: French Medium/Artist Chrishauna

    Send us Fan Mail

I was a born an natural intuitive and medium from a long list of intuitive women. I learned to use tarot as a tool for being able to process thought, and ideas in order to help humanity. When people ask me what I do, I usually tell them, I’m universally employed. So this is who I am this is who I’ve always been and I’ve always been very clear about who I am and what my purpose on this planet is. I believe it takes more courage to be exactly who you are than it is to fit in which has aided in me being a bit of a rebellious spirit. I am Somebody who overtime has gotten a lot more comfortable being authentically myself, even if that makes other people uncomfortable because your medicine in this world is being exactly who you are made to be and not what other people tell you you have to be in that way. Living this authenticity, I have given many people permission within themselves to also follow their own authentic paths, or at least seek the path of knowing themselves deeper. It is not an easy path or a path made for those who are faint of heart or spirit.

There is no greater power than the power of knowing exactly who you are. This is a phrase used to guide my life. I am a multidisciplinary artist as well as a Oracle/medium. Currently I am recording and producing Trip Hop and Afro House as. I not only do oracle reading professionally but also teach people how to listen to their own intuition and get past the collective brain chatter.

She doesn’t need an introduction and her face is known in every corner of the globe, but do we really know the story of the Mona Lisa and why she is so famous?

In part one of our series on the story of the Mona Lisa we shared her life on the run and the theft that made her famous. 400 years after the master Leonardo da Vinci painted her she appeared on the front page of every newspaper in the world.  Taken off the wall of the Salon Carré of the Musée du Louvre on August 19, 1911, it took two days for anyone to notice she was gone.

In this week’s part two, we talk about where she was for 28 months and how she finally recovered and became the icon she is today.

  • EP 390: French-Mauritian queer singer-songwriter Humble Humans

    Send us Fan Mail

Jonathan is a French-Mauritian queer singer-songwriter/arranger/composer who writes alternative folk-pop music anchored by “smooth vocals and rich, warm instrumentations” (Buro 24/7 Singapore, July 2015) likened to Sufjan Stevens, Regina Spektor and Kings of Convenience.

After a childhood and teenage years spent in Mauritius, he lived 15 years in Singapore where he released an album, an EP and a couple of singles, and took part in some of the country’s foremost festivals.

In 2018, Jonathan assumed the moniker Humble Humans and, in 2020, he released his first project as a composer, the instrumental EP Et Chaque Nuit (Each and Every Night) inspired by the eponymous award-winning animated short.

In 2021, he released the four eclectic singles together with animated music videos. The EP “SOFT” came out on Record Store Day 2022 with alternative versions of the singles.

Having recently become a quartet, Humble Humans is gearing up for its first full-band gig on January 14th, 2024, at Les Disquaires in Paris, and an exciting new album later in the year!

  • EP 387: Paris History Avec a Hemingway (Jeanne Lanvin)

    Send us Fan Mail

There are many designers that have shaped fashion in France. However, before there were Dior and Chanel there was Jeanne Lanvin. Lanvin was a designer that paved the way for all the others to come after her.

Jeanne was born on January 1, 1867 in Paris at 35 Rue Mazarine. She was the oldest of eleven children to parents Bernard Lanvin and Sophie Blanche Deshayes. Jeanne got a job working at a hat shop at the age of 13, where she was a natural fit. In just three years she served as apprentice milliner and in 1889 at 22 years old she opened her own shop in Paris on the Rue Boissy d'Anglas. Her hats were very popular with the Paris elite and she had a long waiting list for her custom hats. She would go onto create perfume, sportswear, fashion for men, women and children and designs for the home.

Jeanne Lanvin’s name is not one that is as known as so many other designers and she was fine with that. Karl Lagerfeld later criticized her for her low-key persona and Coco Chanel looked at her as one of her greatest rivals. Today everyone thinks it was Coco that pioneered perfume, sportswear, hats and the color black, but just like everything else that many people know about Chanel, it is completely wrong. It is Jeanne Lanvin that we owe so much.

  • EP 386: Parisian Screenprinter Omer Majiauk

    Send us Fan Mail

Omer Majiauk (born 7 October 1992) is a British artist best known for his large silkscreen paintings.

Majiauk's artistic endeavours include painting, photography and screen printing.

Best known for his large scale silk screen paintings of wordly subjects, Majiauk paints society in which he sees it; idealised.

Vivid imagery is created through the use of primary colours and naive brushwork. Favouring creation over rules, a combination of unrestrained words, forms and figurations explode. Historical information and iconography is mixed with contemporary critique. The resulting works appear expressive, primitive and powerful.

Omer Majiauk has also made significant contributions to the fields of horlogèrie and jewelry in France. His unique artistic direction and creative vision have led him to collaborate with prestigious brands in these sectors.

Majiauk's vast experience within the horlogerie and bijouterie industry has allowed him to infuse his artistic sensibilities into these new, personal domains. His ability to blend contemporary art with the intricacies of high watchmaking has already garnered acclaim from connoisseurs.

Furthermore, his extensive travels have played a pivotal role in shaping his artistic perspective. Majiauk's journeys around the world have provided him with a diverse range of influences and inspirations. These experiences have enriched his work, allowing him to seamlessly integrate global themes and cultural nuances into his creations.

Majiauk continues to divide his time between Paris and the South of France.

  • EP 385: Paris History Avec a Hemingway (Coco Chanel)

    Send us Fan Mail

Her love life after Boy was one horrible decision after another. In 1922 she met the Duke of Westminster Hugh Richard Grosenor or Bender. He was a huge anti-semite that gave her jewels and even a home in London. Their relationship lasted ten years. Then there was Paul Irbe, another anti-semite who started an ultra right wing newsletter against Jews and foreigners in France. Coco paid for the publishing of it.  It was the late 1930’s and Hitler was marching through Europe. One day her employees went on strike because of low pay, Chanel was outraged and when the war started a few years later she closed her atelier putting 3000 employees out of work. Many of the other designers in Paris kept their going as long as they could.

Johanna Bonger van-Gogh a name you may not know, but without her, we would never know her brother-in-law, Vincent. Married to Theo van Gogh, art dealer, and brother to Vincent van Gogh for less than two very short years. When Vincent and Theo died just six months apart, she was left with an infant and an apartment filled with paintings. Told they were worthless and to toss them out, her love and devotion to the brothers wouldn't let her part with them. Over the next thirty-five years, she would take on the mission to build the legacy of Vincent. Through the letters he sent Theo, she was able to direct the narrative of his life that was all but unknown.
