That the Tory government is introducing bills to make Voter ID mandatory.

The level of election fraud in the UK is almost non-existent.

LBS believes that

The aim of the legislation would be to suppress black and other ethnic minority voters. This is a power grab by the Tories.

There is not a problem to be solved but this legislation undermines our democratic institutions.

The most legitimate elections are usually the most inclusive. Mandatory Voter ID will likely disenfranchise at least 25% of voters who include young people without photo ID and also many black and other ethnic minority voters.

This voter suppression legislation is merely an attempt to disenfranchise people who normally do not vote for the Tories.

It is odd that the government plans for legislation where there are no problems to be solved, yet the government is silent on an issue that is a real problem i.e. social care. The Tories created the problem in the 1980s and Boris Johnson promised that no one would have to sell a primary home to pay for social care. Actually, people are having to do exactly that.

The NHS should not be privatised by stealth but the blessing of the NHS is that it provides world-class services to all irrespective of ability to pay. That has been and should remain the ethos of the NHS. Healthcare is not a commodity to be marketed to the highest bidders be they domestic or foreign.

We urge the government to

reconsider its plans to once again restructure the NHS without any obvious gains in costs, quality of services and morale of the staff. Reorganisation costs money that could have been spent to increase the wages and salaries of NHS who sacrifices so that we might live during Covid-19.

The Labour Party to build a progressive alliance to vigorously oppose this toxic White Paper. This is a power grab for a Secretary of State for Healthcare and it opens doors to hollowing out the meanings of healthcare for all irrespective of the ability to pay. It also reinterprets what a NHS that is in public hands means.

The public to support the stand against this bad White Paper. This is particularly important for the people who tend to vote Tory. If you are older with multiple comorbidities that are normally associated with age then this bill is manifestly dangerous. We can see what a disaster the market in social care has become, that is the future of healthcare under the Tories.

We urge

young people to vigorously oppose this bill. The people who are dismantling the NHS in the dark are the very ones who had been taken care of by the NHS for the past 70 years. They are also the same people who studied at university for free. Another world is indeed possible. If Covid-19 has taught us anything it is to love and care for more than ourselves, our immediate families and those of our privileged class. Young people the future of the NHS is in your hand. Defend the NHS.

It is all of our duty! Say no to the privatisation of our NHS.

Israeli government plans to force Palestinian families out of their homes in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. The people of Sheikh Jarrah are originally refugees who were expelled from their lands in 1948 Palestine (expulsion is the correct word according to all the New Historians who studied the declassified official Israeli military records from the time). These 1948 refugees had fled to what was Jordanian-controlled East Jerusalem. This is an occupied city. Under international law such an occupation can only be temporary. This has become permanent and constitutes a war crime. The settlement of Jewish Israelis in East Jerusalem is a war crime. This is the Israeli equivalent of what is now happening in Kashmir and in Myanmar with the Rohingyas.

This not a rant to the government it's a legitimate concern and we believe the public has a right to understand what is going on, in a clear, breakdown without the media/political jargon.

Why is the bill problematic?

The fancy terminology basically aims to stop us from protesting. This is problematic because the right to protest isn’t a gift from the State – it’s our fundamental human right and under human rights law,

States have an obligation to facilitate protest, not suppress it. We are a democratic country and we should have the right to question and gather when we see something wrong!

Yet this is exactly what the Government’s new Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill seeks to prevent. 

Not content with people having a voice by using thr pandemic as an excuse! The Government cannot be allowed to use the public health crisis as cover to make emergency measures permanent. Its new policing Bill is an all-out assault on basic civil liberties.

The Labour Black Socialists stands in solidarity with Labour GRT - helping to oppose the very specific draconian impact of this Bill on Gypsy Roma and Traveller communities - let alone the disgraceful assault on basic human rights, freedom of assembly and freedom of expression in the Bill.

Never give up hope! Or standby and accept the government to dictate your life. You have a voice, use it!
